Some tips from my attempt at this job 2007 focus SE (with the lifetime air filter). 1. When you pull the hard line (bottom) capping or plugging it might help. 2. Once everything is installed, attach the soft line from the reservoir (top) to the master cylinder and let it fill, while having a buddy keep the reservoir ABOVE MAX. Since it shares a reservoir with the brakes, the safety feature is to fill brakes first. Be ready to attach hard line. Once fluid starts flowing out the bottom of the master cylinder attach the hard line quickly. 3. Bleeding! (The worst part, be PATIENT). On my model, I removed the air hose on the throttle body side, used two 10" extenders and a deep 11mm socket like in the video. I strongly recommend you do it the right way with a box wrench and a hose but I was LAZY. 4. Step1= With the bleeder closed have your friend pump the clutch a few times and HOLD it down (to floor or almost to floor), Step2= OPEN the bleeder 1/4 turn'ish watching it with a flashlight, should only be open 1-2 seconds, Step3= CLOSE the bleeder, Step4= then tell your friend to RELEASE pedal (and pull it up if they have to). Step5= Have fluid handy, add fluid, and keep that reservoir ABOVE MAX while bleeding! 5. Keep Repeating Steps 1-5 of the bleeding process. We started increasing the amount of clutch pumps to 5-10 at a certain point which I think helped. Be patient with the bleeding process, we must have done it at least 30 times and it took at least 30 minutes. While you have everything removed, it would be a great time to check on your shift cables as well under the battery box. Check the bushings/shifter and possibly make some adjustments or replacements. There are great videos on that process. Mine has trouble with 1st and reverse. Replacing the clutch master cylinder helped a little bit but did not fix that issue completely. I'll be looking at the shift cables another day. This is the best video on master cylinder replacement thank you so much you saved me a lot of money! Things I had to buy - Big bottle of dot3 (used about half during bleeding), a deep 11mm and a deep 13mm, and a 2nd 10" extender (I had one already).

Can I ask you a stupid question? The piece that you unhook at 23:15 from the metal stud coming off the pedal...what is keeping it from coming off under normal circumstances? My clutch works but that piece falls off. It has a lot of wiggle room. Just slides clean off when the clutch is engaged.

I have a question. If the Cylinder is out that means there's no pressure on the clutch to reach the engage switch right?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct. When the slave cylinder goes out the clutch pedal will have no pressure to disengage the pressure plate from the clutch.
@AllGsReact Жыл бұрын
@BLUE COLLAR GARAGE should I get a slave cylinder too or does that come with the master cylinder setup?

What’s your pedal doing right now? Are you having issues shifting the transmission?
@AllGsReact Жыл бұрын
@@BLUECOLLARGARAGE it won't let me shift cause it won't reach the engage button
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Жыл бұрын
@@AllGsReact do you have any fluid leaking like mine was? Most likely the master cylinder is going bad. The clutch master cylinder sends fluid to the slave cylinder. I would try replacing the master cylinder first because in order to change out the slave cylinder you would need to drop the whole transmission and then at that point might as well replace the clutch.

I got a Perfection Clutch brand , the plastic arm on yours is plastic. On mine and is metal ! And has metal elsewhere. When they wear bad like mine did , the arm will deflect sideways so bad it will pop off of the clutch pedal nub. You will be stuck in traffic without being able to disengage the clutch. Got to a parking lot using the starter to propel the car. Until I could fix mine to keep arm on nub found a just right one-way fastener like they use on fenders. Circular with teeth to hold onto nub.
