How to disconnect the heater core twist lock connectors on Ford 2.0L / Ford Focus and various models made by Ford plus how to fix it from leaking for a very low cost.

These twist lock connectors normally start to leak post 100,000 miles / 160,000 km and the majority of workshops replace the hose ($30-$150 USD) which comes with twist clamps pre connected but this normally isn't necessary as it is the o-ring within the twist which fails and can be replaced for a cost around $1-2 USD.
Remember to let your vehicle fully cool down before working on it to avoid any possible injury.
These heater hose twist lock connectors are fitted on a variety of models sold by Ford in the USA, Europe, Russia and Mexico. The models include 2007-2011 Ford Focus 2.0L (Europe, Russia and Mexico), 2012-2016 Ford Focus 2.0L (USA, Europe, Russia and Mexico) and 2013-2016 Ford Escape 2.0L (USA) amongst others.

This information literally saved me $150 for new hoses and hours of work swapping them out. Picked the O-rings out and replaced them and it fixed the problem for sure. O-ring size is 7/8 OD standard or 22.6 OD metric.

I've got a 2012 as well. I just got the O ring out by removing the gray locking part from the black connector. The O ring is definitely shot.

I bought Storehouse brand, item 67677 Nitrile O-Ring Assortment, and used A116. It is a 3/4 ID 15/16 OD x 3/32 thickness O-Ring. On the quick connect there are two tabs. If you press them GENTLY you can remove the upper grey part of the connector. The O-Ring is found just below where the grey parts sits. This allows for easy removal and easy install of the new O-Ring. Hopefully this helps.

Press in the locking tangs and the locking ring can be removed for easy access for oring replacement.

My o-ring was leaking and I broke the twist connector. Dorman 800-411 is a replacement connector - I cut back the hose and clamped it to the Dorman connector.
