What part# were the resevoir o'rings?
@ToolDemos
@ToolDemos 6 ай бұрын
Update: The o-rings I used were just matched up from a generic o-ring kit. They started to leak a few months later. I looked for Ford parts, they don’t sell them. The fix was finally to buy a replacement reservoir that came with o-rings. Hasn’t leaked since.

Another method you can use for installing that new Plastic white washer is, putting it in a hot cup of water which will make it a bit more flexible install. Also removing the passenger side headlight gives more accesses room to the power steering pump.

Nice video. The OEM hose is DEFINITELY worth the money. All of the aftermarket hoses have the pressure sensor coming off at a 90 degree angle from the pipe compared to an upward 45 degree angle of the OEM hose. The aftermarket hoses put the switch and connector right in the middle of where the coolant hose is. Idiots!

I’m having to do the same but I don’t want to have to replace the pressure line . The nut that connects to the bottom of the pump is so tight on an rounded I cannot use the 18 Mill 17 or 16 or vice grips. It’s stuck on there. Idk what to do
@ToolDemos
@ToolDemos Жыл бұрын
First, try a pair of vise grips. Also, remember it’s upside-down from your perspective, so turn clockwise to remove. If it still wont budge, try adding a little heat to the nut and put a pipe wrench on it. You can replace that union (nut) pretty cheap at the Ford dealer, part number: PSH373 (3R608)

Thanks for the detailed video! My wife's 2007 Focus lost its power steering -- the pump had been making noises for years, so at least that wasn't a surprise. This gives me enough confidence to try the replacement myself and save a couple hundred bucks. (I've changed a brake caliper successfully, and this doesn't look any worse than that.) Is there a particular reason for the replacement hoses? Or just preventative maintenance? 👍
@ToolDemos
@ToolDemos Жыл бұрын
On this car, the system ran dry for so long that the bearings spun and broke the shaft. Because of that I couldn’t actually test it to see where the leaks were coming from. So to get it all done in one shot I replaced both of the hoses.

@ToolDemos
@ToolDemos Жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried it that way, but I think you should be able to keep it intact when you install it. The only difficulty might be the high pressure hose accessibility. The pulley will get in the way, but you’ll probably still be able to reach it. I would first try to remove that line before you do anything else. If you need the room, remove the passenger headlight. That will open up all sorts of access. Happy wrenching.

First, disconnect the brackets that attach that line to the subframe under the car. That will give you more flexibility so that you can line it up properly. If you still need a little bit more wiggle, you can loosen up the power steering pump. It doesn’t sound like much, but a little bit of an angle is usually all you need.

The pump is attached to an engine. Different engines have different pumps in different locations. Focus 2007 came with different engines. I can easily understand if an average woman talks about a car by its brand an color only, but when almost all of the you tube mechanics do the same, I have no tools to understand it in any distant theoretical way.
@ToolDemos
@ToolDemos Жыл бұрын
In 2007 Ford Focus was available with two engine options. First: a 2.0 L Duratec four-cylinder. Second: a 2.3 L Duratec four-cylinder. The power steering pump for both engines is the same. The location for the power steering pump attached to each engine is the same. The power steering hoses for both engines is the same. All of the procedures to remove and replace those components are the same. This is a blue car, a red car would have the same pump, hoses, and procedures. These rules apply to professional mechanics, DIY mechanics, and even KZbin mechanics.

@@ToolDemos I live in a parallel world where I actually have a similar Focus with a 1.6 diesel engine and I just sold one with a 1.6 gasoline engine (that I'm supposed to repair now). In this world I know at least a Focus 2007 1.8 diesel exists and even perhaps 2.0 diesel and I know this gets crazy, but I wouldn't count 1.8 gasoline out. On the 1.6 gasoline (dark blue), that now has a steering pump problem, there is an alternator exactly at the spot where you have the pump. The pump is directly down, around the are of AC-pump.
