Just did my 07 today. Yep ,there was water inside the pcm connector. Had to remove it and dry it out. sealed the hell out of every thing ,and even put a plastic cover over the pcm, runs perfect now, wife is happy again ,lol. Ford should have done a recall on this.Thanks for making the repair video.

My 2004 Freestar has 302 k miles, it's time to replace the CV axles and hub's I have done some work on it, I have had the p0171 and p0174 code for 250 k miles lol I'm going to replace the intake gasket set upper and lower, all the other bull shi, has been replaced. anyway I have been using Valvoline 10-40 synthetic blend oil since 80 k miles my motor sounds great no lifter noise or lower end noise, the silver bullet still tops 107 mph with ease not bragging I have taken good care of the bullet. it's time for more TLC and I will do the sealing on the PCM. I must say my Van has been very good. great videos.

Just picked-up mine from an Original Owner @123K miles and going to take your advice and switch to Valvoline Synthetic see if I can even get close to 300k Wow..! Mine wife’s freestar started running bad the transmission was shifting hard . When I pulled the pcm wire if harness apart it had water coming out of it. Took rags and carefully used a heat gun on low to dry it all out. Sealed it up like you did. Have not had a problem problem since. She runs and drives great transmissions is back to whiting very smooth

Nice video. I like the camper tape you used. Last one I put together I used a bead of clear silicone where the tray meets the steel cowel above the PCM. It will be messy taking it apart next time my way.

I followed the procedure and parts list here, and it seems to have resolved my issues! Granted, I had to replace the coil pack and spark-plug cables first, but this works!

Thanks a bunch for making this video. I (with a 2002 Windstar) don't have the PCM issue but I'm on my 3rd now-defective wiper motor due to water intrusion so I'm going to try this as soon as the next replacement comes in. I saw the TSB document, but seeing it actually done is very helpful, especially those body plugs. The picture in the TSB is not at all clear exactly where they are. I may skip that last sealant considering I have to remove the cowl for every other maintenance job on this thing, but we'll see. I have a 2006 Freestar and it has drain valves on the firewall, one under the AC lines on the left and another on left next to the brake booster. So I think they corrected that issue?

Thanks FordTech. My 2006 Freestar Limited has been stumbling after or during a rain shower or whenever what I thought was my wife hitting a large puddle of water. I completed the repairs on my van today including changing the coil. After I completed it, took it for a drive in the rain and hit puddles.........no stumble. And those body plugs you stated to remove were nasty to say the least. Thanks again for your video and tips for repairs

Hey, I have a 2006 mercury monterey , 87k miles on it. out of nowhere beginning to stall. Starting to think I’m having this PCM issue. battery is fine , engine stalls , steering gets tight and breaks freeze up a bit. any help would be appreciated ? Local mechanic couldn’t find anything , he cleaned throttle body, and replace idle air control valve .

Since water is the problem,can a moisture collector in that area help keep it dry? You would think high heat would dry it out. Junk yards need to sell dry ones.

So the last part where you put the sealant along the outer cowl, I'm assuming that seals the contact with the underside of the hood?Do you let it dry before you close it?

@@on-site4094 i had water in my transmission had it rebuilt he put a external cooler on it in less than 2 years it went out again. fluid was clear but he said it had water in it again . i checked it this morning the fluid looks like it has water in it again ?? where can the water come from .??? i red some where that there is a relief valve under the firewall just under the wiper that could be letting water get into it .

I have a 1999 windstar that leaks at the main reservoir. Why they made that a separate part makes NO SENSE. It seeps out all over the top of the engine and down the backside above the tyranny.. I tried using water seal but no luck ... I think I might fiber glass resin it 🤔. All I know is ford should have recalled that cowl its garbage. It doesn't fit right on the windshield and that drain puddles up with stagnant water. I'm guessing it's supposed to be a gutter drain but it's angled wrong and puddles up.

I just got a 2004 Freestar Limited and the dome lights go on and off internmently while doors are open also there is no communication with my scan tool, pin 16 on the dlc has power and the abs and traction lights are on, I've read that all those things can be related to a bad latch, could it be?

Are you cleaning the area before slicone with rubbing alcohol ? Also what was the problem ? where was the water leaking into ? because it seems you just sealed PCM area from water going into cab, not the connector itself ???

Have a 2007 Freestar. The gas gauge went empty (know there was 1/2 - 1/4 of a tank), gauge light came on, tire pressure light came on, passenger front door wouldn't lock automatically when driving, passenger front door starts clicking noise, no high beams, no reverse lights, when car shut off and keys out the mileage counter shows - - - - -ml, driver side door only locks & only with the remote entry, when starting up after this the low beams come on automatically without the switch being turned on. Any suggestions? Still good van, don't want to buy a new van.

Where can I pick up a wire harness for the pcm. I'm going to skip the bull crap and reroute the pcm inside the van under the seat like it should be. You can seal this till your blue in the face still going to leak. Already tried that. Didn't work. Sealent and weather stripping will get old and brittle over time. Ford knew computers can't be subject to moisture or water but they put the pcm there anyways. Ford spent all that money just to waste. So now the harness is discontinued imagine that.

You can also get ahold of a bike innertube, cut it open and glue it to the pcm/connector area with a hot glue gun. In addition to the fix shown here that would be some cheap insurance as well.

My opinion they should make the hookups water proof that are in the elements of the weather. the computer goes out when you are driving puts the driver's and ever one else at risk PERIOD! Should of been a recall!

That may be what is wrong with my Ford Freestar 2004 van because it starts rough idling when it rains and it's sending weird signals that I need a tune-up which I might not need and the check engine light started going back on it had turned off for a while and started coming back on I've been having some trouble with the cam positioning sensor whatever that is that was giving me a false read rough time last year and I would have to literally as I'm driving shove it in neutral and restart my van so that so I could keep driving with flashers on and that jjust cleared up on its own I don't know how and now it's needing a long time to warm up this is a 2004 I'm seriously considering I don't have the money for it but I'm considering trading it in or just repairing it I really can't afford either one, but wherever you're at maybe I'll just drive up in the back of your yard and say hey dude help me let's get this fixed like your old country dude that handles his stuff in the country and doing people right because I've got a state inspection due in May they are going to get my registration taken care of her DMV I don't really have a lot of expense and I want to keep it that way seems like I can never get ahead....... so I seriously don't think I will make it to Wisconsin but maybe you can direct me to someone here in Chesterfield Midlothian or Chester Colonial Heights Virginia somewhere in that area that would not rip me off and do exactly what you're doing if I could get my part and drive up and say hey help me even though the stupid coronavirus quarantining sh*t is going on I hope maybe you might be able to direct me to somebody that would cut me a break

JOSE MTZ I had same problem with my 2005 Freestar I unhooked battery cables for bout 3 minutes and put them back on which reset the CPU and so far my Freestar is shifting gears again. Afterwards I changed the transmission filter and fluid.

Hi I have 2004 Ford Freestar and I have a problem. It might be the PCM not sure. It radio comes on and off the abs and brake lights would come on and off, the mileage would disapper and each time this would happend there was click under the dash. Now everything has stopped and just the battery light is on. while the car was on I took off a battery wire and the car was still on working fine. The car runs fine it just goes crazy the needles sometime go up and down. I don't know what can it be unless its the PCM - I've seen some of your Videos and there is no doubt you are knowledgable on the Ford product, hopefully you can help me out.

+Robert Cruz I just had a similar issue. Everything would go on and off and the battery light was on and if the van hit 2200 RPM the battery light went out. It turned out it was the alternator. If you take it to Autozone or another auto parts store they can check the alternator to see if it's putting out enough amps. If your battery is strong enough the van will run for a couple of weeks before it let's you down. If driving at night don't run anything but your light and whenever possible don't use anything electrical until you get it checked.

Thanks for the info but I took it to the mechanic and I found the problem - its over charging. The alternator should be working at 14 volts and its charging at 15volts. The alternator is overcharging. I have to get another one and return that one.

+Robert Cruz I was pretty sure it was alternator related. Mine was the opposite mine wasn't strong enough. I just got the correct one put on and it's working great now. Good luck to you.

I have a problem and i want your opinion pleas. I have a freestar LX 2005. The electric door locks work only to open but not close. This behavior is random, but mostly of time not work. some times when the truck moves, the locks close but only a few times. some times using the bottons the locks works but mostly not. it is the computer?? i clen all the cables and check the fuses. +spidermanmex I would go right after the door lock relay in the interior fuse panel and swap it with the unlock relay and see if your problem is now reversed.

Yup same problem on my end should of been a recall I bought a 04 with 60000 miles on it and 4000 later in less then 5 months of ownership in repairs paid 5800 for it just leaves me piss ed off I'll never buy a american car again and it's a shame had gm products to just piss poor quality.
