Ford's flagship MPV is built with one thing in mind: luxurious practicality - and it succeeds. It's massive, offering loads of space in the cabin and boot. Seven adults will fit comfortably, and both rows of rear seats fold flat into the floor. It's luxurious and surprisingly responsive to drive, too.

In regards to your friends VW transporter DSG, it depends on the mileage it's done. 31.9mpg seems pretty poor for a TDCI, even regarding the fact it's Auto. Tell you what, I'll see if I can get my hands on some Galaxy 2.0TDCIs, one 140ps auto, and another 163ps auto. I'll drive them similarly and see the difference for you. Hope this helps. :)

How come none of the reviews mention that the 3. row also features sliding and reclining seats?!? It's a good feature if you want to transport 7 adults or enlarge boot space in 7 seat configuration. An excellent feature that the 2015. generation has lost and not many MPVs have AFAIK. Also the vertical cargo net is excellent at keeping the luggage in check and not have everything fall out when you open the boot. Excellent car!

Well I do love ford focus' and ford ka's but I'd never own one. We got a new Yeti (same model) in dark blue (we are on motorbility so each 3 years, new car), and lol doesn't the colour like to change to green in particular light lol. Yes you can't completely compare a van (that's what galaxy is) to a compact car, but then for the most part, the Yeti sure does make a good comparison regardless, especially when you can fit a adult wheelchair (big wheels and seat) and 3 big suitcases in the boot...
@warwickstingray

The Yeti is a good car but the galaxy’s NVH, ride and handling are miles ahead of the Yeti because it uses the mondeos under pinnings.

Yes, maybe you have an unlucky one. Shame that. Which trim did you go for - Titanium? All manufacturers, no matter how much you pay churn out factory Friday jobs. One of my old school mates has a 2006 S class and by 2008 it was falling to bits, the sump just fell off of the bottom of the engine? The tranny was abysmal too. Fixed now though.

I'm well happy with my Galaxy, it's the biggest mpv I could get for my large family. The other motor on my list was a new Vauxhall Vivaro crew cab auto but the Ford Galaxy won in the end. I love this car, insurance was £260 fully comp, protected no claims bonus with unlimited miles including legal. Road tax is cheaper than my VW Touran & road tax on Galaxy is £175 pa. Superb car, would be nice to have a small car as well as it's a monster size for the supermarket.

Yep got to agree there, the dsg tour and with the 2.0tdi 140 hp was a bloody quick mpv especially in my last week of ownership when I gave it a Titsing. The new galaxy is just one huge mpv but the next option up for me was a van or minibus. The ford & vw were totally different motors. The Ford just has the big space we needed.

Gone in 3 years? Is it a company car? In that case, you needn't worry about MPG much, as it is free fuel anyway. The CO2 is what you pay tax on. If it is personal lease, I can only offer my sympathy and my help so far. I also had a Focus 1.6 TDCI, even when you rev the tits off it, Still returned a respectable 64.1mpg average. I got it up to 80.6mpg (the claimed is 83.1). I find it odd how I am the only one that seems to be getting near claimed figures with Fords. My advice: have it looked at.
@indepthcarreviews4796
@indepthcarreviews4796 11 жыл бұрын
Take it back to Ford. Be assertive, but not rude and demand they fix the vehicle. If not, abandon your Galaxy at the dealership, in the middle of wherever it'll be in the way most and take the keys with you, leaving it locked. Refuse to move it an inch 'til they fully inspect the car, free of charge under the warranty. ;)
@indepthcarreviews4796
@indepthcarreviews4796 11 жыл бұрын
Calm down a little. The MPG figures are test data only, done independently by the Governmental tests in laboratories. Every manufacturer advertises unrealistic figures. Petrols tend to be off of the figures more than Diesels do, which is unusual given your TDCI circumstance. As stated before though, I get 55mpg out of my 1.0 petrol Focus and it's claimed figure is about 56mpg! When engines are new they are very tight, you need to run them in more so they loosen up. My 1 series was the same.

The Galaxy has a feature called eco mode. It's in the Human Machine interface. If you select it and it shows 5 full green leaves under anticipation and speed, then there's something wrong with the car. If there's more green leaves to add to your score then it's your driving. Hope this helps. I feel the one responsible as I was the one to recommend the Galaxy to you.

If I was choosing a Galaxy again I think I'd test drive the 163 hp version, I had to have auto but the 140 is certainly sedate although I do very little in the way of motorway driving. Mines the zetec & the spec is exceptional although I've sat in a titanium x & it was amazing although out of my price range. Fantastic car, I've 4 children, one in big car seat/pushchair & it manages. Would be good to see mpg increases, my cars done 17100 miles now.

The Air con will reduce fuel consumption by a little, even the CD player saps a tad of the energy. One final thing to consider is the fact that you did opt for the auto. Not only did you make it a tad worse for yourself by going 140ps, but you lose quite a lot of driving force/energy through auto boxes, especially on heavier cars. Take this for example: the Toyota GT86 (supposedly sports car) does 0-62 in 7.6 secs with a man box, with the auto it does it in 8.2secs! On the same engine.

Nope, Ford tests even the smallest details during development. Our family have 2 Galaxys, one from 2006 (1.8 Zetec), and one from late 2010 (Titanium X 60 reg) neither have had issues involving rattles in the overhead bins. Neither have had any problems whatsoever actually.

Chryslers are bad on fuel!? What about your 2.0 and 2.2 TDCi averaging 35mpg? When every other engine in that spec does at least 50+ to the gallon. Hardly "Economical" is it? Oh, and Ford still can't match the old 1996-1999 Voyager for luxuaries in today's Galaxy built and designed nearly 20 years later, its a laughing stock.

He clearly hasn't heard of a Chrysler Voyager which is much bigger in size and better than this glorified estate car (Estate car is a station wagon for you lot in the US). All a Galaxy is and all it will ever be is an estate car with 7 seats. If you want a proper 7 seat jumbo jet get a Voyager like the one we own which has cruise control, captain seats and much more.

Well said Jase, Fords are overrated rusty piles of crap which perform pooly even on a big engine with high bhp output. Most are big on the outside small on the inside all Ford ever focus on is driver involvement they don't focus on the needs of people. Most of SEAT and Skoda is actually very good but people still think they are shit because of old stigma from the 1980's. People still think Ford is the best to buy when it isn't times have changed but people can't see that.

Indeed. Everyone knows the Galaxy is a lifted Mondeo estate with some changes and two more seats added. The S-max is the same, just that it's slightly smaller and has a sloped roofline to allow for sportier looks and driving dynamics. If you've driven a 240ps Powershift Titanium X Sport, then it is surprisingly quick for a 7 seater... no, don't bring the Zafira GSI or anythin into it, it drives poorly and is cheap tat.

The old 1995 Chrysler Voyager puts this new shape Ford Galaxy right in the shade and the 1995 Voyager shape is 17 years old. Our 1999/T Voyager LE is much bigger inside, every row reclines including the third, theres at least twice as much legroom in each row, twin sliding doors, folding mirrors, RCL, Cruise/C, Aircon, fogs, alloys and each seat is a full size seat not half size rear seats like these ones and its got a 2.5 Merc TD engine in it and our Voyagers the lowest LE spec you can buy.

The Toyota GT86 2.0 (197bhp) returns a respectable 35-38mpg on a 2.0 litre flat four petrol engine putting out nearly 200bhp. Your 2.0 TDCi is doing 35mpg on a (Wait for it) commonrail diesel engine with 138bhp. And you laugh at the Voyager for poor fuel consumption? The 2.8 CRDi Voyager does about 33 to the gallon and yours does 35 to the gallon on an engine 800cc's less... I'd rather have a Voyager thanks....

Well, if this helps; I have a Titanium X Galaxy in frozen white. The rear most seats are so spacious that they can slide forward and aft. There is plenty of room for a couple of bags in the Galaxy. The S-max, being shorter redeems itself with the two rear seats up by having an underfloor cubby with a decent space as well.

Funny you should say that, for my birthday, (not too long ago last year) I visited a dealership in Farnborough, as I am a big fan of Fords, I thought i'd stop by there. I was surprised also that there were no galaxys there, only a Grand C-max and 2 S-max Titaniums. They did have a Mondeo Estate in panther black (titanium X sport, 2.0 powershift 163ps diesel, loaded with extras) which made the trip worth while. There was a lovely ice white Mondeo 2.0 Ecoboost 240ps, with sat nav, so I bought it.

Well, the car is very plush and refined, I'm sure you'll love it. Take care of it, and it'll take care of you. The citroen will seem like something you won't want to go back to, especially with the smooth powershift box you have opted for (it's on my 240ps Mondeo ecoboost). The Galaxy is also very safe, even has a knee airbag. If you have any questions with it, just ask me. I know the ins and outs of my Galaxy and will be happy to tell you anything you need to know. Ford Galaxy does not topple over. I find that it has a little body roll, but the S-max is the sporty version. The Galaxy is the luxury/comfort version. The Skoda Yeti is a compact, lightweight crossover and cannot be compared to a Galaxy. The nearest competitors are the VW Sharan/Seat Alhambra (same car) and the Chrysler Grand Voyager (not very safe and rather expensive).

If the car started fine when Ford looked at it can you blame them? Perhaps take some footage in with it not starting up and show them. Perhaps if they can actually see something wrong with it, then they'll be able to fix it. If it just starts up without issue when they look at it they won't be able to know what to fix really. Have you taken it in for a service?

You know what's laughable about the GT-86? The 0-62 time of the Auto - 8.2 secs! My Mondeo 240ps will do 0-62 in 7.5 (claimed) but I get about 7.2 secs on premium fuel. A heavy, less aerodynamic Mondeo with a 2.0 petrol is a whole second faster to 62 than a lightweight, supposedly 'hot hatch' or coupe or whatever the GT86 is. I know the manual does 0-62 in 7.6, but it's still slower. A Golf GTI and Focus ST are a second faster than that still, and they're still heavier cars. The GT86 is a dog.

Continued..it just felt like they left it alone so no fault code would show thus no repair or replacement was required (thus no cost to Ford). When I later had a moan to service reception they were not fussed & said I could take it back broken down as many times as I wanted lol. It's simple "no fault code, no repair", just wondered what happened to good old mechanics???

Thanks for the info about that Mondeo engine. It's still going believe it or not! LOL, it just won't die, even with a fault. I'll direct her to where to get it fixed. Do you know anywhere good other than a Ford dealer? Ford dealers are a POS (usually, you either get shocking or excellent service with Ford) when it comes to servicing and repairs. It's done about 530000 miles, so she won't sell it in years to come, so FSH from approved dealers isn't necessary. She'll scrap it and buy a new Mondeo.

Recently bought a 15100 mile 12 plate Galaxy diesel zetec powershift from a Ford main dealer, after 22 days of ownership broke down with an obvious starter motor issue which was confirmed by the AA. Within the hour it was at a main dealers saying it would be looked at, many hours later they had not touched the car & when they did it started without fault & no fault code. Ford handed me the car back saying there was nothing wrong with it as no fault code.

Our galaxy would’ve been nice if we had leather seats, updated infotainment and we didn’t use it to carry around supplies while renovating our house

Hi, sorry to hear your Galaxy is returning not great MPG. My 2.0 163ps Titanium X gets about 48mpg. It is the 6 speed man, but the powershift 163 I drove wasn't much worse at 44mpg. Perhaps your tires are underinflated? Do you always drive with A/C, heated seats, radio and everything on? Other than the MPG issue, how is your Galaxy going? If you have any issues I'll be happy to try and help (I work at Ford dealers).

The Toyota GT86 is an EXTREMELY lightweight very compact car. The Focus 250hp ST gets a decent 39mpg on it's 2.0 petrol engine and it's faster than the GT86. It's all about weight. The drag coefficient of a Galaxy is significantly worse than a GT86.

Hi Sam will respond later to your messages. My 140bhp powershift is returning 37.8 mpg over the last 700-800 miles, I'd say 75-85% city driving and the rest A roads which I'm well happy with. I drive carefully & more often than not is loaded up with kids & a pushchair that I store in the car. Happy so far, had no starting issues lately.

And before you claim about the MPG, when driven carefully I get close to the claimed 36mpg figure - 33mpg. The thing about ford (unless in the city cars like fiesta ad Ka, with optional spare wheels) they keep the standard spares in, even the Focus does. VW do it too with the Passat, not sure about the Golf, haven't looked in the back of mine.

And you can also swing it around really really easy. My mum is able to make really sharp quick u turns in it like as so it's a mini, but try do that in the galaxy you'll topple it over (we had the galaxy before hand). Although its just a 1.2L petrel, wow doesn't it accelerate and when you put it in sport WHOOSH you go! I said straight away to my mum, put a 2L in, it will be a Ferrari.

Sam Tripp. Just commenting on the body roll of the Galaxy. I changed from a VW Touran 2.0tdi with the dsg g/box. I must say the two cars are totally different & the big Ford Galaxy does have some body roll especially compared to VW Touran which is lots shorter & lower centre of gravity. Both cars had 140bhp but the VW was like a rocket compared to the more sedate progress of the Galaxy.
