Do all three holes suppose to aline with the plate or just one?

I bought a 1973 highboy and my cousin worked at ford and I needed a engine for it and he had a 390 fe in his shed anyway I got a newly rebuilt one of these 79 steering boxes and I figured I would pull the front fenders and grill off of it for putting the motor in anyway so I think it would be the best time to install the power steering box I hope it makes it easier I really would like to have power steering on it I will have to come up with the arm and the drag link

would an F150 4x4 gearbox and pitman arm work for a 73 f250 4x4 or is there a different one for a 250 vs 150
@lakescooterliving Жыл бұрын
There is a difference between the 250 and 150. I’m sure u could get it to work but it’s probably no worth the effort.

Wonder what is the difference between the two

You don’t need to cut anywhere near that amount out of the crossmember with that kit. I know they say that you do but I trusted this video and cut exactly the same amount as you did and it is way overkill. I almost could have gotten away with grinding down some on the steering box ear to fit it. I’d add a picture, but I can’t.

Thanks for the info. Glad it worked out for u.

Hello, what else did you change in order to make work?
@lakescooterliving Жыл бұрын
Just what is shown in the video at this point. Wasn't too bad. I have the truck still sitting waiting to be finished however. I hope this helps you.

The best thing Ive ever done to my truck so far was this conversion. I hear you when you say these steering gears are hard to find. I just happened to luck out and find a junker 79 ford that had all the steering parts on it. I took all the measurements from the 79 and matched them to my highboy, like box placement and line routing. Boy it sure made it easy having both trucks side by side. I also took the pump and pressed my fe style pulley on it so it has the later plastic case pump with the wider opening it works excellent.

Glad to hear it. Good work

did you lift yours as well? We have a client that wants a 4" lift with his 1977.5 F250 HighBoy
@MTOM75 Жыл бұрын
@@pro-modtoddlyle5673 No I didn't it had the factory springs on it. It might need a block added to the steering if you want to reuse the 78-79 factory style steering. A lot of times though guys will just convert to crossover steering and change the pitman arm.
