When I restored my 1931 Tudor in the 1980s, I remember that getting the hinge pins out took me forever! Thanks for documenting the ways you did yours!

In the end, we figured it took us about an hour per hinge pin by the time it was all said and done. Definitely more involved than we thought going into it. Thanks for watching!

Putting the heat to them really made a difference on our stubborn pins. Good luck on yours. Let us know how it turns out.

Came across your channel on the Model A ----- thought I would tune in and see what's going on ------ Another pointer ---- as you tighten up on the Hinge Pin Tool ----- take a hammer and hit the Bolt Head ---- you don't have to hit hard ----- just small smack ---- ----- you have kinetic energy then going through the bolt -- the pin and on to the door hinge pin ------------ Taking off stubborn Brake Drums with a puller attached ---- smack the large bolt head that's you are tightening down on ---- same principle ---- tighten a little --- and smack ---- you are releasing that energy ------- Will follow along on the Restoration ----- Thank You for the Video ---------- Rodney

If you're ever going to try and drive the pin out with a punch, always have someone hold something very heavy on top of the hinge. None of mine wouldn't budge at all after soaking for a month, no matter how hard I hit them. After advice from a friend, I got my wife to hold a very heavy 2ft wrench on top of the hinge with it slightly open to straddle the top of the pin. A few taps and all of them came straight out. The weight on top stops the impact being absorbed. Also if using the tool, hit the bolt end after tightening it. It doesn't need bashing, just a couple of firm taps and tighten it some more.

I had to soak, heat, soak, heat, two hinge tools and finally...drill all of mine out. Each one was a little hell. I'm so glad I don't have to share hell alone. :-)

It’s definitely a job I don’t want to tackle again anytime soon. Glad you finally broke through and got them done.

Air chisel with a punch attachment?
@EpicRestorationz9 ай бұрын
If it’s a really thin punch attachment. It’s a pretty thin hinge pin.

Nicely done! Too bad about the paint.

The body is getting completely redone, so we weren’t concerned about the paint. With pins as rusty and dug in as those were, I’m not sure there was a way to get them out cleanly. Thanks for watching!
