I just did that, on my 3.8l , and it sucked. Engine runs good, but I did make a few mistakes on torque, fuel injection timing and oil pan rtv sealant. I think that if I ever did a top rebuild again, next time there would be easier, but it was my first time and it was a definite learning experience
@charlesmckenzie7101 Жыл бұрын
Ps getting the oil pan and timing chain cover off was a nightmare. Although putting it back together was a little easier. I believe when sealing front cover and water pump that sealant and a gasket should be used. I like using both to ensure no mistakes, although that engine does not have an oil pan gasket, so extra rtv is a must

@MechanaholicsCreations2 жыл бұрын
I replaced most the components, things like springs, pistons, and rockers can be reused within specifications. On The lower end, I did replace bearings and hoan and replace the rings in the cylinders and all the timing components, I just forgot to film it all because I was in a rush cus I was moving to another state. I might redo this video on another customers vehicle to get more in depth. If you look at one of the twin turbo f150 videos I go in great depth on everything lower end. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I have 2 questions. If someone could help me out, id appreciate it. I just replaced the timing cover gasket, and water pump gasket on my 04, 3.9l mustang. Now i have to replace the lifters, bcuz I noticed (it sounds like) one of them is collapsed. If i replace the head gaskets, will that interfere with the timing cover? #2, the engine has over 250,000 miles on it. The head gaskets aren't leaking, but everything else, IS. Im thinking about replacing all the seals in the engine. Im worried, if i replace the head gaskets, and the heads are warped, then it might cause other issues, right?

Cool video - had my 99 Mustang six rebuilt at about 210,000, tried to limp home with a bandaged radiator hose - kept gauge from going to hot, but electric cooling fan had died - kept getting oil in the coolant reserve bottle intermittently - one thing I was questioning was the brand of parts - I have been told that it is best to use Ford timing chains, and saw videos of cheap chains - I had the experience with a bad rebuild on a 85 Chrysler Mistubishi engine - Action Cylinder Heads in San Diego area rebuilt this engine - had timing chain go bad after about 10000 miles - had to fight with them to cover even part of the cost of the obviously cheap timing chain used. Old timing chain wasn't noisy at 100,000 plus miles -
@RidinDirtyRollinBurnouts2 жыл бұрын
Did they soak the new chain in oil?
@appleimacdude2 жыл бұрын
@@RidinDirtyRollinBurnouts don't know, I was very disappointed - my regular mechanic had used this firm for years, and they always stood behind their work. If they didn't feel qualified to rebuild the difficult Mitsubishi engine, they should have said so. Instead, it had to go back because at first it was belching black smoke badly, when that did not clear up after a short time, it went back - then the timing chain got noisy at pretty low mileage - and I had to fight with them to even cover some of the cost! I told them it they had gotten some bad timing chains, then they needed to take that out of their suppliers hide - I shouldn't have to pay for it. It wasn't a cheap rebuild, and I expected a quality job. By comparison, my 99 Mustang six was rebuilt by ARCE motors, a professional rebuilder in El Cajon, and though there were some hickups at first, a quality job was the end result.

Ok here is the critique of this engine disassembly and reassembly. This IS NOT an engine rebuild. This is an engine REPAIR. I see this level of engine repair often on KZbin, and don't understand why, when the engine is completely disassembled, one would reuse wearing components? My question would be why did you disassemble the engine in the first place? Because it was well worn from high mileage? And then you decide to reuse the old worn component parts? That just makes no sense to me ....

I thought when you rebuild an engine you need to add the additives so the engine doesn’t seize. At least that’s what my instructor told me in college. Ive never built and engine so I just want some clarification
@MechanaholicsCreations3 жыл бұрын
Yes with new cam and crank bearings installed, it's common practice to add a zinc additive to help with the brake in. But as long as you have the proper oil capacity in it, it won't seize. I've never seen one seize from no additive added, but I've seen them seize from improper bearings before. Also use engine assembly lube when installing the components of the engine, it has a heavy zinc content already.
