When I was a kid one of my cool car guy neighbors had a Raven Black, Gold C-stripe '68 428 CJ Torino fastback automatic console car as his FAMILY car. He had wanted a Mustang, but he needed more space for his kids. I was so jealous of his kids getting to cruise around in that car! He left it stock with the factory chrome 10 hole steel wheels - his one change was a pair of Cherry Bombs installed at the local K-Mart auto center. It sounded so cool. He kept it forever, his kids even got to use it on their prom nights.

I was lucky enough to own a 1969 R-Code Torino GT 428CJ from 1971 to around 1980. It was pale yellow with gold stripes. As I recall, the stripes on this car continued in a straight line all the way across the rear quarter panel. The car in this video has the stripes following the upper curve of the panel. Damn I wish I still had that car!!!
@BloodRaven1969
@BloodRaven1969 2 жыл бұрын
Correct, it seems that this '69 is a repaint with '68 GT fastback stripes. The main differences between the two years it the stripe top like, the centered and crest surrounded grill GT moved to the drivers side, and this '69 is missing the "mesh" under the tail light panel brightwork bar. I've owned several '69 & '69 GT fastbacks, including one of each at the same time. Btw, the oddest stripe was in '68. A heavy band that followed the top of the body line while the bottom of it followed the '69 GT's upper line. Sadly that one was a PA rotted out parts car only

For a long time.I didn't know that the Torino had a model Cobra. I am a Carrol Shelby fan. One of the true American Icons. That took it to the world of racing. Then won! But the Torino Cobra is just a cool Muscle Car. I had a 70 Torino with a 302. Dark green with Black Comfort weave interior. Not a Muscle car but a neat body style. Shawn.

Thank you Dennis... You just proved my point A little over a week ago I talk to a gentleman who had a set of Magnum 500 wheels that a friend of mine wanted to buy the Magnum 500 wheels had a Ford stamp in the wheel indicating date code, plant and shift where they were made.. . I asked him if he could tell me what those numbers were told him where they were and he could not verify that they were there... I told him if they're not there then they are probably Cragar knock-offs I asked him to take some pictures of the insides of the rims which he said he couldn't do at the moment he also said he had the Magnum center caps separate but they didn't fit (another indication)..the man told me I didn't know what I was talking about, we ended our conversation..

When I was 24 years old and in the USAF stationed in northern CA I bought a new 69 Torino in dark metallic green with the gold stripe came with an FM stereo radio and BF Goodrich radial tires (which were both new things back then). The interior was black vinyl and without a/c. Was it hotter than hades in that car. When you closed the door on your Torino it had the same tinny sound mind had. As a side note, being in the military and a non-resident of CA I could take delivery of the car in NV and not pay CA sales tax (NV did not have sales tax back then). With a local Ford sales guy with me (had to pay $25 for him to accompany me) we drove to S. Lake Tahoe, NV to have a letter notarized (in NV) stating that the car was delivered in NV. After that, the salesman wanted to go to a casino and play Keno for a while. I had never been in a casino or ever played Keno so I said what the heck. On the third ticket I played, I won enough money to pay off the car. What memories your video brought back to me.

Dennis, I really enjoy and get a kick out of your excitement describing the rarity of your many finds but, honestly I have never understood why (other than for investment and hopefully future profit) people trip over themselves lusting to own low production, specially equipped cars when for a hell of a lot less money you can buy the exact same car and enjoy using it. My first eye opener on this ‘disease’ was when “Corvette Restoration - The State of the Art” hit the book shelves and I, as a Vette owner, discovered the extent that enthusiasts would (will) go to to own a car that will end up as eye candy, rarely if ever to be driven.

I have a replica1974 Gran Torino Starsky & Hutch that is so correct, down to the correct Police radio used on the show, that Revell used my car for the Revell plastic model that came out a few years ago. The picture on the top of the box is a picture of my actual car that was taken the day they came to take pictures, measurements and video. I even have the invoice from Revell with my name showing that my car was used in the making of the plastic model. I know it’s not a Boss 9 but for a poor guy like me, it’s definitely a GYSOT! Cool car, I once had a Springtime Yellow GT with 428CJ RA, 4 speed & open 3.50. In the '70s I used to get the aluminum intakes from ex-police cruisers, still have one on my Cobra. The Marti report indicates 2313 Raven Black, '69 Sportsroof Torino GT, 40 had the Comfort Weave bench seat(that doesn't agree with other report). Those numbers are for all GT Sportsroof. Incl 302(std engine), 351 two & four bbl, 390 and 428CJ with/without Ram Air. In the mini report, 57 of the 428CJ GT were black & one had Comfort Weave bench seat. So yes it is one of one. Order listed as "RETAIL", meaning someone walked into dealer, completed order and likely placed a deposit. In other words, car was sold when ordered. Waynesboro VA is a smallish city in the mountains just off I-64 near Staunton(Statler Brothers). In 1968 I-64 was yet to exist in completed form. Would be surprising if Paul Freed Inc(dealer) sold a half dozen 428 Mustangs & Torinos combined. Apparently only options are the 428CJ Ram Air, 4-speed, T-L 3.50 gear, upholstery & Visibility Group. In features(may or may not be options) Marti only lists Traction Lock, Visibility Group & std WW tires. The outer grille sections are incorrect, ones installed are metal versions from a Fairlane or maybe Cobra model. In my experience 428CJ cars had open rears about as often as not. Optional on all models that did not have Drag Pack. Probably ran short is a old wives tale. If T-L was ordered, build would be held, then scheduled when available. Non performance dealers seemed to order without T-L & probably checked off a clock instead of tach in dash.

Another great video, Dennis; two really cool cars. Every Friday, I look forward to a new Coffee Walk. Love the muscle cars, but I’ve been a Jeep guy since college - bought my first in 1984, a 1980 CJ 5 in dark green metallic. It was in perfect condition, 1 owner, totally stock, with black interior and soft top. The engine was only a 4 cylinder and I think it only had 3 gears, but it worked fine for my needs. What made it “rare” to me is it had a 40/60 split bench seat, up front. I’ve never seen one since. Man, I loved that Jeep; sure wish I still had it. Keep doing what your doing and thanks for all the videos! Bryan in Richardson, TX.

NOTHING like this but one of my favorite all time cars was a 68 Torino GT. This was in the mid 70's. Bench seat. The girl sat beside me while I shifted that 4 speed with the 390 4 barrell under the hood. All I added were headers and thrush mufflers, of course hijackers and traction bars, merely for the look. (Old school. lol) I had so many cars looking back, 64 Falcon, 69 Mustang convertable, 72 Duster, 72 Nova, 68 Mustang, 65 LeMans, and one of 500 Fiero GT's, JUST to name a few. I kick myself daily for selling them and moving on to the next car. Wish I would have kept them all. Oh, and I know the fiero wasn't everyones cup of coffee but I loved that 6 cyl on those eagle gt tires. It would fly. LMAO

I love the hardtop 1969 and 1970 Ford Torino GT and Cobra Jet body's. Something about a big muscle car I just love. I know the pony muscle cars are lighter and I love them too but it's something about the Ford Torino, GTOs Ect.

~'O those were the days my friend~! I wish my 70 Mach I 428 had lived, but I sure had fun (and won alot of races); during the day, I sold car insurance, by night I did not ...

Dennis, the Marti report you have for your '69 Mach 1 was interesting to me. In the mid 80's I owned a '69 Mach 1 that was optioned very much like yours, T red, white deluxe interior with fold down back seat, etc. Mine also was 428CJ, 4 speed , shaker hood, p/s, p/db, It also had full console, and tilt-away steering. The thing that got my attention was the power ventilation, my car had that. If the Marti report is correct, then we have found the two cars that had it. I've been in the Mustang hobby nearly 50 years, and to now, my '69 Mach 1 was the only one I had ever seen that option on. My car was sold new here in Huntsville,Alabama by Woody Anderson Ford, and to the best of my knowledge, is still in this area.

In 1978 I bought a 1970 Ford Torino Cobra with 429scj drag pack, brown with tan interior high back buckets, Am 8 track 4 speed close ratio. I've also had a 66 Mercury Cyclone GT with 427 4 speed, it had aluminum bumpers front and rear, fiberglass decklid, hood, and front fenders from the factory. I had in early 90s a 67 Fairlane GTA with a 428cj in it. It had 12.5 to 1 pistons and long duration/high lift solid lifter camshaft. I have owned six mustangs and a 68 Mercury Cougar XR7, but have always liked Fairlanes and Torino's. First real muscle car was a k code 65 Fairlane Sports Coupe. I would restore the r code mach back to factory even with the open diff. Too rare an optioned car to do otherwise.

My father had a 1969 Mercury Cyclone with 428 SCJ drag pack , 4:30 gears , It was red with black interior and was an automatic. Numbers all matched and everything was there. The Marty report said less than 120 built like that one. It needed a full restore and he sold it a few years back unfortunately

They really are "absolutely beautiful". I got a 72 mach since high school and I just love the fast back lines. I bet if ford brought it back they could not make enough of them. I would buy a new one today.

I had a ‘69. Torino GT - I really wished I hadn’t sold it in college. It was an M code if I remember right. 351 Windsor with a 4barrel carb (it was a cast iron intake. One of the coolest things was the turn signals on the hood scoop- you could see the Ford insignia in the corner of the light if you looked close 😀

Hi Dennis, I think a factory restore would be the way to go on the Mach 1. Including new candy apple red paint and white leather interior (stunningly beautiful)... However, I would compromise on just one thing....- (you need a new dash anyway), so please fit air con so the new lucky owner can enjoy the full comfort of regularly driving this wonderful, wonderful car. Live long and prosper my friend.
