Two years later, you're still saving us money and hassle! A perfect video that really helped me diagnose that the high-limit thermostat was the culprit. Replaced both thermos per your recommendation and less than 48 hours and 14 dollars, we have a functioning dryer again. The high-limit thermostat was a bit of a hassle to take off as it was a tight squeeze through that hole and it was difficult to get leverage on the top screw that's close to the drum. A small power screwdriver would've helped that, but I lacked one of those. Reassembly with the new parts was much easier. Thank you for this video. It's people like you, taking the time to make videos to help others, that make the internet great.

Thank you very much for this video. It was right on for testing to see which parts were not working and which ones were. We layed our dryer on the left side and used the exhaust outlet hole and side access hole. We also put a small towel under the heater element with the dryer laying on its left side just in case we dropped the small screws. That saved us since we did drop a screw. You saved us lots of time and money and felt confident in fixing the dryer.

Thank you for the video! Your diagnosing part was helpful to determine that I did not have a heat element issue. I may have a different LG, but I was able to hit the reset button in the bottom of the dryer without replacing the parts. I also followed your cleaning advice and got a big "lint python" out that likely caused it to trip. Mom of 3 here--fixed my dryer for free! Thank you so much!

Very good video, fixed my dryer in one hour because spent time testing the thermostat. A suggestion, I used a induction flatplate to heat the thermostat to see it's operation. Worked superbly. Our LG distribution did not have the parts, thus could not replace. Your idea to reset the breaker by putting in the freezer worked beautifully. Thank you!

Only a few minutes into the video and this is already the best video I've found out of 10+. Thank you! Unfortunately I found this video after I already took the whole thing apart. But I was able to use liquid propane to freeze the high limit thermostat, put the thing back together (after cleaning everything) and got my work close dry. Now if it goes bad I know how to easily access it without taking it all apart. My wife is going to be very grateful tonight 😉 thanks again!!!

Thank youuuuuu, Anthony, or is it Seth Rogen twin!? This is the perfect how-to video if LG (and maybe other?) dryer suddenly stops heating since unit has 2 heating elements and very unlikely both fail at the same time. No front and rear tear down and only 1 screw removed to access faulty thermostat!! Genius!! Saved so many hours compared to heating element replacement! $14 for both thermostats on Amazon and easy for amateur to replace, and now I’ll be returning the heating element unit which was also 5x more expensive. $14 vs $950 new unit vs $400-500 service repair in MN, so thought I’d try it.

I know, that was a dumb question. The fan moved very freely, if I flick it it continues to spin freely. There was hair built up on the fan shaft, I cleaned that off, it was moving freely before I cleaned off the hair. The small pully, belt tensioner however does not spin freely. It's not bound, more like if it had heavy grease on it. I wonder how freely it should move?

@@armandsalvini7790 My spun fairly freely but I pulled off the cover and saw a lot of lint stuck around the blades and packed against the cover. I cleaned these off and it spun easier and longer. Sorry I don't know how freely the belt should move.

In a small town in Alaska and we needed a dryer bad as our fishing clothes were getting pretty bad. Watched tons of other videos to trying to figure out what to do as parts take some time to get here. Your way of explaining things helped us troubleshoot and the refrigerator trick worked to get us a temporary fix until we get a part here. Thank you for this video. The other videos I came across suggested taking the top off, the front panel, etc, etc., to test the thermal fuse, thermostat, and heating element. Your method is an incredible time saver. My issue was the thermal fuse. I was able to reset it using the upside-down can of air trick to "freeze" it back to having continuity. This allowed us to finish drying our clothes while waiting on the thermal fuse and thermostat to arrive from Amazon. Again, Thanks!

Firstly thank you for this video. Not having to take the dryer apart just to replace those two parts is invaluable. Thankfully I'm very flexible so reaching in wasn't as hard as unscrewing those tiny four screws. They were on so tight and the dryer drum hangs low above those parts it took a little work, however I got them off.. ordered through Amazon separately for $21. I hung cloths on a dryer rack till parts came in. There was a LOT of dust and lint inside the dryer like you said. Putting the parts in was a BREEZE (I took pics for wire replacement) I ran a diagnostic test again and sure enough those numbers began to go up..PROBLEM FIXED! Honestly you are the BOMB!! Thank you so much for saving me money in these very difficult times.

Not to be another "me too" but thank YOU, Anthony! When I called last week to see how much it was going to be to get a repair guy out just to take a look, it was going to be $110! Found the parts on Amazon and was able to install and test after a bit of an issue getting the screws off (the ones closest to the drum). The stubby didn't work for me as I have large hands and couldn't grip it. Was able to locate a Phillips with a nice flat end as a handle. Allowed me to get the leverage that I needed. Really wished the US would use torx rather than Phillips but was able to get the screws off without damaging the heads. That's what took me the longest time. Thanks again!

Hi buddy, thanks for your video. I have an LG DLEX3700V dryer that's giving me the error code TE1. I looked it up online and found that it might be a bad thermistor. I ordered a new one (model 6323EL2001B) and replaced it. I measured the resistance of the old one, which was about 8K ohms, and the new one reads around 10.8K ohms. From what I found online, the normal range should be around 11K ohms, so I think the new thermistor is fine. I also tested the round thermal fuse you mentioned in your video, and it reads 0.04 ohms, which seems normal. I took apart the vent and cleaned everything, inside and out. There’s no dust or blockage near the two sensors. After reassembling everything, I double-checked all the connections to make sure they're tight. I also measured the resistance at the yellow and blue wires leading into the control board, and it shows around 10K ohms, which means the connection to the board should be fine. Once I put everything back together, I reset the dryer by holding the start button for five seconds while it was unplugged. But when I powered it back on, it ran for a few seconds and then showed the TE1 error again. I tried restarting it a few times, but the TE1 error keeps coming up. Do you think this could be a control board issue? The board is pretty expensive, so I don’t want to buy one without being sure. Could you help me figure out how to use a multimeter to test the board and what kind of readings I should be looking for to determine if the board is bad? Thanks for your time, and I really appreciate any help you can offer!

Great video! Thanks for posting- girlfriend and I are looking at a seemingly nice condition used LG set for sale. Seller says the dryer doesn't work but doesn't know anything more. This video was a great help! . . . PS LOVE THE SWEATSHIRT! APPLEBEE'S!

Worked. 49.00 for one 15.00 for second. 73.00 with tax rather than 1000.00 for new. Magnetic screwdriver best tip. Minimum bloody scratches on that very sharp vent hole edge.

Thank you! I diagnosed that it was the thermal reset fuse, so I put it in the freezer and threw it at the ground, and it reset! I put it all back together and my driver is fixed. You saved me $800ish! Thank you! Do you accept gratuities/tips (e.g. via PayPal or something)?

Thank you for this video! This turned out to be exactly what was wrong with my dryer. I came so close to just ordering a heat element. Also, I did put mine in the deep freezer (I had to do it twice to get it to break loose) to see if I could get it to work. Well it did! I am still ordering a new one but like you said, at least I can get some laundry done while waiting for the parts. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this thorough video. I followed your steps through the diagnostic sequence and had the same readings as you did so I ordered and replaced both my thermostat and thermal cut off. After replacing both parts, I ran the diagnostic test I still wasn't getting any heat (the reading started at 20 degrees and went up to 21 degrees). So I went and borrowed a multimeter from a friend so that I could test the ohm values on my heating element. All three leads (red, yellow, and blue) tested out exactly like you stated. So now I'm not sure what the next step would be. If you have any suggestions I'm all ears. Thanks again for the video, it was extremely helpful.

@@TheVintageEngineer I installed the parts and verify the components by conducting an ohm test. I just want to make sure that you can't install the thermal shut off upside down or put the leads in the wrong spot. Also I don't know if this matters but on my display screen the cooling notification will never go off, no matter how long I run the dryer. Everything I have read says that the cooling is apart of the cycle but it should only happen roughly around the last 5 minutes of the cycle. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to answer questions.

Can’t really install upside down but did you put the wires back correctly, particularly on the 3 terminal thermostat? If that all seems good, it’s possible the board that controls that circuit could be out. What about the old thermostat and the hi limit, did you confirm a bad one on the old parts by measuring resistance across?

@@TheVintageEngineer @Anthony Shelton I didn't test the old ones I just replaced them because at the time I didn't have a way to. Plus is was only $11 dollars so I thought it was worth just replacing them to see if it would work. I have tested both new components and the heating element and everything ohms out appropriately. It might be the board. I noticed that the display always shows that it's cooling, so maybe the board is telling the dryer to cool instead of switching on the heat

Unless you are comfortable working with electricity (performing tests on live wires inside), then it does sound like the board without performing other tests. Edit: just looked up this cooling light and it’s evidently suppose to be on all the time and only flashes when cooling is active. You comfortable working with the unit on with wires being live?

Thank you for showing everyone how to test the heater. Mine is good and gives me piece of mind after tearing the whole dryer apart. LG should be ashamed for making my model to where I have to take the drum out. B.S.
