Do I have to drain all the refrigerant out of the system before taking everything apart?
@Flyingfeather32562 жыл бұрын
You are supposed to take things apart with an empty system. If there is some pressure in the system you are going to get hurt 🤕. If you don't have the means have someone extract the gas to a recollection tank. Don't vent it out to the atmosphere it's illegal and contaminates the atmosphere.

Why do u drill into the lower airbox to remove the tanks? That lets dirt bypass the air filter through that hole. And once you remove the 2 nuts of the blower assembly, why do you cut to it already being pulled out? Thats the important part to see if there are any hidden things down there which dont let it come out and will get broken off.

I'm so ignorant!!. Still waiting to see the evaporator. Which one was it?
@Flyingfeather32563 жыл бұрын
At 10:36 you can see the two aluminum pipes coming out of the "Black plastic box" are attached to the evaporator, the evaporator is inside. You have to remove that "box" off the car and open it, the evaporator is inside.
@ClutchCobraKID12 жыл бұрын
Dude the bottom portion of the air box is held in by rubber grommets theirs no need to drill a hole in it for access to the bolt for the reservoirs. Those grommets pop out pretty easy and if you remove the right front wheel and wheel well splash shield you can have access to underneath making things much easier and also giving you access to the grommets for the lower intake box. Also I'm pretty sure you got your airflow backwards, I'm pretty sure air goes into the right air duct from camera perspective on the firewall, the blower motor is on the left side and has to send air over the evaporator core and then into the right side air duct on the firewall. Also the original air box is covered in heat shielding so it would be prudent to buy thermal pads or thermal tape and cover the box. - 01 BoostedXPLR sport

Wow that sucker is a lot of work for the average person. Wonder what that would cost to have a shop change that out. Good video, but way more than i would want to tackle by myself. I would have to take it to a shop anyway to perform a vacuum, anyway.
@Flyingfeather32567 ай бұрын
Get an estimate from a shop, and go from there. And if you by any chance decide to tackle the job yourself, make sure everything is nicely assembled and have a shop vacuum and charge the system.

Hello, nice vid and thank you for the info! We have a 2000 Ford Explorer v8. Shop says I have no coolant, and no leaks they could see so it must be the evaporator and that the dash needed pulled. I've actually pulled the dash on a Ford Expedition for a heater blend door and heater core. But I've seen 2 videos on here so far that say it can be done like you've done it. Am I missing something? I REALLY don't want to pull the dash again, if I have to.... I'll probably suffer through not having air. But this looks "relatively" simple in comparision. Also, I don't have all the extra stuff you do. Just a normal person trying to save money by doing it their self. Where did you get that O-Ring set at?
@cyclingsports6075 жыл бұрын
The V8 engine could be a bit bulkier, but I would try the same aproach instead of taking the dash board out. Just be patient and calculate your moves, sometimes you have to remove stuff that is in the way to get access to things. Take pictures of the area before you disassemble anything so you can put it back on the same way. I haven't done a V8, but I'll ask around and if there is anything different I'll get back to you. The "O" ring set I got from eBay. just type: "O ring set for an Explorer A/C system" and the applicable year. I hope I can be of some help. Just let me know how you doing.

@@cyclingsports607 Yeah, that dash on the Expedition, took me FOREVER. I was by myself working on it. My parents said I'd never get it back together correctly to work again, LOL. I do NOT want to go through that another time.

My friend, if you have the 5.0 V8 you are a lucky man! If you do, you can access the evaporator from the engine compartment. Is possible that you may have to remove the throttle body from the intake manifold, I'm not sure. But if you have the 5.0V8 you don't have to remove the dashboard!

2 things wrong. Supposed to disconnect battery ground 1st. And its an accumulator, not a drier. Though it does basically same job as a drier. They are different. Systems have 1 or the other.
@Flyingfeather32566 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right, a receiver-dryer differs from an accumulator in these two ways: A receiver-drier is considerably smaller than an accumulator, usually around half the volume. Receiver-driers are ALWAYS located in the high-pressure side of the system, usually between the condenser outlet and the expansion valve inlet, The accumulator is located on the "suction" or "low-pressure side" of the AC system, between the evaporator and the compressor. And yes, I failed to disconnect the battery ground, thanks for bringing these details up. :)

The bottom half of the filter box just pulls right out. You drilled it for nothing. Those grommets holding the filter box are almost indestructible. Shoot the grommets at the bottom and the two going in the fender frame with WD40 and it wil pull right out.
@cyclingsports6075 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice, it's possible that the WD-40 works, it never crossed my mind. I just know that when I tried they weren't budging at all and I didn't want to destroy them. Thanks again! 😁

Thanks for your comment. The only reason why I made that hole in the air box is because the hole is on the "dirty air side" of the box, in other words: it hasn't been filtered yet, It does not affect at all. Now if it was made on the already filtered "clean air side" that would be a big no no!

@@alexthekid1726 that would be the normal and more logical way to do it, let me explain myself: I was concerned about braking the rubber grommets under the air box since they get brittle with age and heat and came up with that short cut of drilling at the bottom of the air box.
