In past fleetfarm had starter/alternator/generator rebuild kits.

This is not a starter rebuild but it should be, This video is a simple Bendix or starter drive replacement. While you have the starter off of the car and in your hand you should replace the bushings and brushes then you would have a rebuilt starter. I heard you say you are scared of the brushes (its hard) No its not. Take a picture before you take the brushes out if you are worried about putting it back the same way it was.

It sounds to me like the starter itself is either locked up or it has burned it. maybe try to tap on the starter housing a little and see it starts then. It also may be something simple like the brushes being bad.

I got it now. Yes I had that problem also. I think it was in 2008 when I had battery cable problems. I did the same as you and it cured it also.

I have a 78 F-150 explorer and I believe the starter may be shorted. When I turn the key I hear the relay but nothing beyond that. The positive wire on the battery and the power wire to the starter get really hot. What could the issue be? I'd like to take it apart to repair it. I'd like to hear your tips, thanks.

You'll have to read the post below for this to make since. It was not my starter after all. It was the starter and ground cables. They were corroded internally and were not allowing a solid ground to the starter. I replaced the ground cable that is connected to the bottom starter bolt and the positive cable that connects to the relay on the fender wall. I also replaced the starter cable that runs from the relay to the starter, and I replaced the relay on the fender wall. Problem solved.

I have a 1991 F150 and over the last year or so I have had what I thought was a starter problem. When starting the truck the bendix would not retract after the engine was running. I would replace the starter with a rebuilt one and after a while it would do it again. It would get worse over time and eventually the starter would lock up. I researched this issue on the internet and found many F150 truck owners were having the same problem. After replacing 4 starters I figured it out.

I was wondering if you had experienced this problem with your '91 F150.

where did you get the parts for the starter

would be great if people would keep the camera frigging still instead of moving it everywhere.

Yes. This starter came off of it. I thought I would try to rebuild it myself rather than buy a "rebuilt" starter that who knows what had been done to it.

That's not a solenoid cover. "Just need some lubrication" LOL. That thing is oil soaked and full of grit. Dunk it in diesel for a day. Take apart and clean with contact cleaner. Reinstall.

You don't say what year your Ford is. The solenoid on mine is not on the starter but on the passenger side fender near the battery. It's a 1989. So your video is useless to me.
