Ford Thames Trader Truck from Uganda

The 1959 model truck is still running in Uganda and doing all sorts of things including campaigns for Obama.

I used to ride in a Thames Trader lorry this exact colour in the late 1960's. It was being used as a removals van in Hertfordshire, England. Who knows, maybe this is the same one that ended up in Uganda with an open cargo area bed instead of an enclosed van! Great to see that one still exists. A trip down memory lane alright.

That is a Mk1 3 tonner long wheel base with the 220 CID 4 cylinder diesel. The same engine as the Fordson Power Major Tractor. It appears to be in remarkable condition. Thank you for posting.

This is the more scarce 4 cylinder Trader. My dad and granddad had the 6 cylinder Thames Traders which looked similar, only stronger powerplant.

Thames trader trucks worked very hard on Ugandan roads. Its a pity people like like General Amin amin did not appreciate all the hard work that goes in building a country.

Why does that say 3D?? instead of 4D meaning a four cylinder diesel. I drove a Thames Trader tipper in the sixties but hated the driving position with legs straight out.
