Great video..I picked up 68 4500 and i've been working on it for a couple years when I have time. figured out the head gasket problem...head bolts were bottoming out. so now its running pretty good oil pressure is ok doesn't get hot. but there is some oil coming out of the tube under the power shift trans not a whole lot but a good bit..it shifts ok..Now I have to go through the hydraulics on the hoe..It is a pretty clean machine, they worked it real hard back in the day...but that all ended when the headbolts bottomed out and they just got tired of replacing the head gasket..My hoe is real slow and it's the big model. I have been working on the control arms , replacing the bushings and the pins and its still slow

yep !!!! my 4500 tlb 2 years ago still has original tires on the rear , replaced coolant -- oily --, valve cover leaked , removed cleaned & check head bolts -- found 2 -- loose , now coolant oily again , will 1 @ a time remove head bolts - add washer , think head bolts are too long , flush out oily radiator 2 X , replaced both trans -- fluids 2 X

@@gregwiese2642 The washers didn't work well enough...They helped but the head gasket still leaks. I know a mechanic that used to work at the Ford dealer. He worked on many 4500's. You have to replace the head bolts because they stretch. The best fix is to contact ARP bolts and replace the bolts with studs. Thats my next move any day now. Also I'm pretty sure the reason my hydraulics are slow is because the pump needs to be replaced..I will be doing that too. I had a bunch of fluid back out the top of the holding tank all foamy and that means cavitation of the pump...I'm pretty sure

Good job staying on the lube part. 3/4 of all jobs we get are "lack of maintenance", and mainly someone did not bother with a grease gun.

@@AtlastaFarmCo the half inch headbolts are too stretched out washers did not work. It is better but still blowing head gasket. Now i am going to go to studs from ARP Bolts. And install a new hyd pump

This is obviously the problem that I have. The next problem is the pun is stuck in the valve body. Any suggestions on how to get it out

Usually a pretty stout magnet does the trick. I have also taken a fine pick or chisel and tapped the side of the pin head (like you would an axle nut) to get it to at least spin then can use a magnet or fine plier to get it. Worst case is a fine drill and coarse screw (like wood or drywall screw) to extract it. If you have to drill, the pin could potentially be saved and reused if you can be precise enough not to drill all the way through.

@@AtlastaFarmCo Thanks i have tried earth magnet and the pick. I'll Try the drill. Do you happen to have that part number so I can try to find one.

Do not have it readily, but there is a clear image of the package with the number near the beginning of the video

@@AtlastaFarmCo oh yeah. That's right. Thanks for your help and time. Wasn't really comfortable with the drilling so I persisted with the pick and finally got it. Just knowing that I wouldn't harm any other parts made it alot easier to continue taping on it with the pick. Now that its removed that was my issue. I will clean it up and try it out. Can't say thanks enough.

Does anyone know if a 1992 FORD 555C Turbo tractor/loader backbone has a “mechanically shifted shuttle power reverser transmission “? The trans is stuck in forward gear. Thanks

Not 100% but Im pretty positive that was the era they used electronic solenoids for shifting. They were notorious for the shift mechanism to fail (at the steering wheel). And if maintenance was poor, the solenoids would begin sticking and eventually fail.

@M&MS CLASSIC TRACTOR Thanks & the Solenoids are in the trans? Worked on my own car/trucks but not a backhoe. Need to buy a service manual.

Hello again, finally got the new pins installed and the lock out back on trying to shift manually and its locked. If I take off the lock and pins shifts ok.. any suggestions?
@AtlastaFarmCo

Okay there's two things that will cause that. First is you put the springs and the Pistons together backwards in the block. The second is also the weirdest.. but those tractors do not like to be over filled on the transmission. You could try to remove a little bit of fluid and see what happens.
