The frustrating part is that 80% of garages would have immediately put a starter in this without any testing whatsoever....thank you for being a professional.

The intriguing test journey can very often be the interesting or exciting bit though. I love finding a small issue that was creating such a big issue. I enjoyed this one 🙏🙏

Hey Christopher, thank you so much for your nice comment 🙏🙏 I enjoyed this job, they keep us on our toes & try not to fit parts that aren’t needed. I’m glad you enjoyed it & thanks again mate 😉😉

I don't think you have 2 solenoids on that starter motor. It seems the functionality of what we refer to the typical pre-engaged starter motor solenoid has been split in 2. Appears the lower unit is a contactor and the upper is a solenoid that only throws out the motor gear(normal solenoid doing both these functions in one unit). A bit like the old inertia bendix motors that had the contactor mounted in the engine bay(a high amp relay). Can only hypothesize this contactor is beefier to accommodate the auto start stop.
@kennedysgarage32818 ай бұрын
That sounds very plausible Dave, god cross reference with the older style inertia bendix. Something new to be learned everyday 👍👍

Good diag and fix, I have seen someone fit a second starter solenoid onto his stuff in the 90s, I can't remember his reason, I think he said the starter motor last longer. I've never seen it come standard on a car though. Cheers mate
@kennedysgarage32818 ай бұрын
I haven’t seen it before either but I’m sure we’ll figure it out in the near future. It made this starter out last the main power feed anyway 😂😂😂 Cheers Matt 🙏🙏

This car shows that you can get a voltage drop with no current flow. I am guessing it would drop to no volts with current flow

@kennedysgarage32813 ай бұрын
Hi Clive, it doesn’t really have a name but it is the main battery cable from the starter motor. It’s part of the loom so cannot be purchased easily 😬😬

Apparently the second solenoid is actually a relay.Something to do with protecting the ignition switch

@kennedysgarage3281 I'm not entirely sure but it was my first guess, as always the engines are evolving at an alarming rate, I guess we'll just have to delve in that bit further lol

It really does make life difficult at times, especially when you have a windscreen just over the rocker cover. 1 tip of a ratchet or spanner could cost you €1000. Stupid cars 😂😂😂

Hi Husein, you will need to get a mechanic or automotive technician to take a look at it. You most likely have 2 or 3 issues 😔😔

Cool video brother. Two solenoids are bonkers, they make testing more of a headache they didn't need to add to the time. Ford need to fix that or make it very cheap to change or they lose another point on recommending ford to customers. Ford are in my top class but sometimes they get me wondering WTF they doing. So guys who no nothing about cars, get a ford car if you like them because they sell lots of them and parts are cheap or always online second-hand. Toyota or VW / Skoda are my top two the ford 3rd place. I would stick Skoda last for part prices, but they are so reliable I can't do it they go second over Toyota.
@kennedysgarage32818 ай бұрын
They are doing some crackers design additions on cars nowadays. I’m not sure whether these additions make them better or worse. I’ve had a few fords kick me in the bottom lately making me dislike them. Especially that 2.2 Transit or Ranger engine, with oil pumps, egr coolers & head gaskets. All in all I prefer Mazda’s 😬😬😬 Crazy or what 😂😂😂
@careyautorepairs8 ай бұрын
@@kennedysgarage3281 💯 agree. VW used the same 1.9 2L for loads of cars and and change the design and that’s what I like about VW. Most people don’t give a monkeys what’s under the bonnet so they should just focus on appearance and feel for the consumer and leave the engine to the mechanics to make the decision. If I run ford I’d have mechanics doing the the feedback not technicians. Stupid simple will always keep the fitters happy and it’s the fitters that many people take the advice from. I also think also all electrical wiring should run across the roof and push fit everything so easy for all rewires and repairs they make that headache also giving no room or a full days work.
