Jimmy I agree with you 100 % …when I hear the words delete DPFs and remove them I just cringe ….a blocked Dpf is usually a symptom of another problem unless you have a extremely high mileage engine and the poor thing is bunged up with ash….a simpler solution to most of these issues is to make the Dpf filter itself ie the inner ceramic honeycomb filter easy to replace ie a decent stainless steel hinged end clamp on the metal Dpf casing open it up remove the old ceramic insert and just slide a new one in

Great work jimmy, you cant win them all, but thanks for your explanation. I think the customer should send your video to Ford UK chief executive explaining what has been done and ask them to replace the van - 56k is nothing..How they react to their customer will insightful.. its their reputation on the block here & it would make a very interestibg video.. i for one will not be buying a ford Or Euro6 van after seeing this.. Ford by not acting, is damaging its reputation and should stand by their customer here…

After seeing so much of your video, we can conclude: a DPF is more like a sensor itself, if it generates (senses) a fault, there is something ELSE wrong in the car. Good diagnostics required! Great job and explanation Jimmy.

I suppose if you were to disconnect the exhaust from the DPF and check if there is a soot build up there. The tailpipe is covered in soot but by disconnecting the DPF might help you.

My 69 plate Transit Courier is a class action waiting to happen. Not fit for purpose and negligent Dealership. Get this, on mine, the oil level had risen so high it got into the air intake via the sump gases pipe. The Head mechanic drained off the extra oil mixture (which was predominantly diesel) and gave me back the keys, charging me for a new air filter. When I stated the oil viscosity would now be incorrect, they said it wouldn't be a problem. I argued the case and spoke with Lawyers, they soon chamnged their tune. Have since suffered engine failure due to oil contamination. Had numerous arguments with them and they have since (under goodwill) replaced 3x set of injectors, the dpf and now the entire engine block. What a shambles! My biggest concern now is that the fault is a fundamental design flaw in the vehicle and that the new engine will still suffer the same problem. Plus the turbo is oiled from the same supply, so presumably that will fail much sooner than it should.

Can u just strap the particulate matter sensor to the outside of the exhaust and place in a sealed bag? If you’re not one for mapping stuff out. Thus it won’t detect the soot leaking past the failed DPF and therefore fixing the van. Bit like you saying on a Euro 5 van without these sensors it would happily carry on as long as the DPF pressure stays within tolerances

There certainly seems to be an issue with certain E6 DPFs either that or the sensitivity of the particle sensor downstream is way way too high, maybe a better solution would be to shield the sensor from the exhaust flow , depends entirely what its looking for and how you could mimic a good signal ,

😂🤭😮😮 jimmy literally used the word most reliable and Land Rover in the same sentence I have literally never ever heard a mechanic ever say that. On a serious note if a vehicle fitted with a DPF has a fault that can’t be fixed causing the DPF to keep failing the only option is to get rid of the vehicle DPF deletes often cause further issues no only with passing the mot but also potentially with the running of the vehicle seen it many times generic remaps causing multiple random faults and issues.

I have the exact same problem with a 2020 connect. Originally ford said it wasn't covered under warranty so brought it to a "dpf guy" for a clean turns out he just tried to remap it out which worked for about 3 days. A few weeks later had a separate issue and was forced to send it back to ford when then I was told the dpf would of been covered under warranty but due to someone trying to remap it they woudlnt touch it, quoted 1200 pound for a new dpf with no guarantee it would fix it. Been going on for around 2 years now and the van is getting undriveable and keeps cutting out under any hard Acceleration. All caused initally by the split boost pipe. Really don't know what to do now as the guy who Originally tried to remap it said there's nothing more he can do. Just turning into a money pit

Ive got this exact same problem on my 2019 connect, same p2002 code, drives absolutely fine and you can just keep clearing the code. Ive put around 10k miles on it with the issue and it seems that it is enough to block the dpf up again. Ive had a garage look at it and they think its the adblue injector being blocked up, so gonna put some miles on it and see if the light returns. Has anyone gone down the dpf delete route with these vans?

Not a DPF fault but i had a crappy Scenic that kept throwing up SRS faults even after changing every sensor. I bought a scan tool and just kept deleting for over a year until the MOT. Cleared the code for the MOT and it passed....deleted the code a few days later when it came on...and still after 2 years no reoccurance. The scanner works and was 1/3rd of the price of constant airbag sensors and replacements.

I wonder if anyone has considered that there may be a problem with the engine? For example a CCV problem. There is a lot of soot/ash in the exhaust pipe, which suggests the DPF can’t cope with the level of particulates the engine is generating. This probably means the post DPF particulate monitor is detecting a problem. The key DPF parameters suggest that the DPF itself is okay.

I'm guessing the Ford techies replaced the DPF without fixing the issue that was causing the DPF to fail. If the customer went through the 'fix list' (date order), he might fathom out what went wrong and when. Very hard to prove now as the cause of DPF failure has since been fixed but would certainly look suspect if the van went in a few weeks after the new DPF was fitted for a repair that might potentially have damaged the new DPF. Also note, the customer may have driven the vehicle excessively with a warning light on causing DPF failure, hence Ford told him it was his driving style. IMO, if such damage can be done, the car shouldn't be able to be driven.

There is another possibility ...... it's not something stupid like the sensor is seeing dust rust flaking or ash coming from the DPF as soot ? As if it is there will be a legal redress as isn't it soot that's the problem not rust flakes or ash , an electrostatic precipitator would deal with them

@phantom-mk4kp I'm guessing you mean a force regen? Well, the reason is simple: the "forced" part is not good for your DPF. The ECU will try to "force" the DPF to get to 350 to 450 Degress in a very quick fashion to get all the soot out of your DPF which is too much for the DPF, especially if it is a old car, but even for new cars. The best type of regen is letting the car do its thing for what it is designed for and not worry much. The ECU keeps calculating how much soot is in the DPF, how long you are driving, temps, etc. So leave it as is. If it requires a clean, clean it, tell it it has a new DPF and let the car do it's thing.

I can only assume that from the manufacturers these DPF’s are made cheaply in say China and shipped here.for use throughout the uk by the Dealers. It seems to me it’s a classic case of a known problem but we aren’t going to lose money so the customers take the hit. I would think by now with all the publicity around this issue the guy with the van would stand a good chance of getting trading standards involved and let them deal with it, it just seems that in the final analysis the van isn’t fit for purpose whilst breaking emissions laws as well, the customers done his bit and more so the manufacturers and the dealers need to take responsibility.
