My first time in a branded Ram! Today we're talking features and failures of the Ram Promaster compared to the Ford Transit. Spoiler alert: I think I still prefer the ford. Also, a sneak peak at the next generation CDV, the Velocity R2. Thanks for watching!

On my route yesterday, I got a flat tire, DEEP in the woods north of Sultan!!! Yeah, literally in the sticks! Called my DSP. They said I was on the northernmost route and it would take them over an hour to get up there to rescue me. Since I was roughly about halfway through my route, I ended up changing the tire myself. Good thing the Promasters have a FULL sized spare on them, especially since it was the front passenger tire, which is a drive tire that was flat. There was actually a split in the tire and you could actually hear the air hissing out of the tire. I noticed it while at a customer's place, in the woods. I will say that IF you have to change a tire, the Promasters have a pretty good setup with the jack, lug wrench, and tools needed to lower the spare tire which is tucked up underneath the rear of the van. There was even a real nice placard in the jack kit (which hides under the passenger seat) which gives you instructions on how to retrieve the spare and where to place the jack, etc. Good times!

Great vid as always! Our DSP primarily has Ram Promasters. The Rams have a far better turning radius than the Fords. That's a plus in my book. The front-wheel-drive is better than the rwd of the Fords. Since I primarily deliver in a rural area between Woodinville and Duval, I am on quite a few dirt/gravel/mud roads and the Ram tends to do far better in that environment than the Fords. The Fords are so easy to get stuck in the mud or wet grass on the side of the road. I do hate the door lock function on the Rams, but there is a workaround on that. :-) The Rams seem a bit shorter than the Fords. While that may not be a plus for a large route, however on rural routes where you are driving down private roads that are narrow and have hairpin turns, a shorter/smaller van that is easier to maneuver is better. Have not seen the Ram CDV. That would be a cool rig to drive. I doubt our DSP will see them tho. The Maple Valley station does not have a lot of step vans and CDVs, I think primarily, the routes of that station tend to be more rural and suburban routes. Thanks for a great video!

Stereo connection pisses me off in the promaster. Usb or bluetooth it takes a while to reconnect after turning it back on after every stop

Great video from a the guy that drives them!! Dodge might have transmission issues overtime, but ford Ecoboost engines might have issues, still Ford wins. Mercedes still costs to much plus no parts or service close-by.

I don't know much about the transit, but promasters need a transmission every couple oil changes.

The Ram CDV's are awesome. Love em! The turning radius is excellent. I feel like they can almost turn perpendicularly. Only time I drove that class of van in a Ford was during my test after driver training. They are far less maneuverable. Feel almost like a box truck. The Ram cdv feels even more maneuverable than a Ford transit 'sprinter' van.

So true! We have a couple dense urban routes and the Ram CDV is perfect for its size and amount of cargo space! I like the EDV but the Ram CDV is a close #2!

Ford’s are the bane of my existence. The auto lock, those step stools in the back that take up valuable space, etc. Everyone in my DSP always rushes to get a Ram and not be stuck with a Ford.

That’s funny, for us the Rams have the auto lock!😂 and only a few of our fords have those annoying yellow step things in the cargo area (I think that’s what you’re talking about). We also just got 2 Mercedes which I’ve never tried, maybe soon!

yes FORD. I LEAVE THE DOOR BARELY LOCKED AT THE REAR AND IT KEEPS IT FROM AUTOLOCKING. also the stupid Bluetooth keeps shutting down after every engine shut down so I just turn the stupid thing off and I don't even want to mention the RMPS keep accelerating with just a little bit of gas.

My 2003 Dodge Durango has the same problem where sometimes when you unlock it it does 3 long honks. Can't believe Dodge hasn't fixed it.

@@FridayAdventureClub It is probably some engineering fault in the FiatChrysler corporation (which is now part of Stellantis). Ram is actually not responsible for this design. Rather, it is a re-engined, rebadged Fiat Ducato, which is known to have a good turning radius and decent driving. The engine present in this van is an engine not originally intended for commercial application and thus requires much revving to make power, which could be the cause of the hesitation on hills. The Italian-spec version can only be had with diesel engines, which cannot comply with US emissions regulations.

Not sure if your DSP has them but try driving the OG sprinter vans. That thing is sooo freaking small. My DSP still has them and they expect us to fit over 290 packages inside them like wth

You finish at 3? What time do you dispatch and how many stops/packages?

We start at 7:15! On the pad by 7:50, First stop by 8:30-9. A chill day is 120 stops, 220 packages and I might finish around 2/3. Busy day can get up to 180 stops/ 320 packages, done by 5 or 6.

the biggest issue is...Ram's 'auto-lock', wherein the Fords, that setting can be 'disabled'... :-)

You can change that I think I left fob in van and left it ànd it didn't lock me out. But when have the fob it auto locks. Turning it on each time is annoying. And out à governor on our engine

What up! I think sometimes in the step van/cdv you get more oversized, I don’t know if it’s any heavier though. I think still 50lbs max.

CDV routes tend to get a few more overflow since they have like double the space compared to a pro master. But the routes they’re put on are usually open and easily accessible for bigger vehicles.

I actually like the ram more, the turning radius is better, never really cared about the side door because mine is always open. But aside from that, I feel like I only like it more because of the things I hate about the ford. I really don’t like how the park brake is on the right side because I’m always tripping on it when I get up to go to the cargo hold, and I hate how I can’t just pull the shifter all the way down and go because the bottom position is manual mode. The amount of times I’ve redlined the van because I didn’t know I was in manual mode is crazy… but I do like the way the fords look lmao

Never have tried the sprinter! Do you have a long wheel base or a shorty? I’ve heard the OG’s from like 2018 are the worst

@@FridayAdventureClub long wheel base compare to the promaster and transit. To me the Sprinters feel like they are better built and more friendly for delivery. Some of our routes take us on gravel roads and the promasters go all over the road once you go over 30 mph. The Sprinters don't. Like you mention the sliding door handles on the promaster and a nightmare.

Just opposite for me I was à long distance industrial courier up in northern Canada and promaster is a beast. That was a 2017 fully loaded 3500. Now tried 2022 one. Even dreamier. If your driving in a ton of snow and ice all day and in manual transmission there is no comparison. I put those vans thru the pace. I don't drive like most drivers

I used to drive a pro master and yes, it is garbage compared to the transit, the transit is just a better van. Seating position in the pro master is goofy, the Parking brake like mentioned is goofy, and the features are nothing compared to ford. The way it drives is also goofy

The ford transit made my right leg get numb. Also my right foot. Hahaha yes I had it checked by dr. All good. Had a trainee and told him about the Sears in the transit. He was like. What? Whatever he said. Then he said, hey you drive. My leg is numb. I like the promaster. It’s not my truck, it’s not my gas so, hmmm yeah. I’ll take the promaster for how comfortable the seats are. The transits feel different. My lower body does not like it. I’ll drive Chevy or a ram anytime now.

Thing I hate about rams is that their radios sucks! My work have Ram Promaster City. It would freezes or reboots. Bluetooth 1/2 of the times works.

Weird! I haven’t had that issue but I’d believe it. One time all the lights stopped working as I was headed to my route. Blinkers and everything. Maybe some electronic issues are common?

Usually we don’t know until the day-of. I just asked if I could use a ram that day so my manager put me in one! Usually it’s pretty chill, probably depends on your DSP though.

Imo the pro masters the easiest to drive but underpowered. Transits overall the best but very low seating position. The Mercedes are the most narrow and but comfy

Now where we deliver on Vancouver island. The fords are horrible. Heater cooks you.. They absolutely horrible in snow.the side doors are piss poor filmsy.turn awful. Promaster climbs snowy hills very well. It's higher up. That step is àwesome. Promaster turns on a dime.i use manual transmission on it. It has no rival
