Excellent tutorial, I upgraded my column to a tilting one on my 1999 Ranger. That mileage on your van is absolutely insane as well, really shows the long term reliability of these.

I just have to say thank you your method for replacing steering tube bushings excellent method without having to remove steering column I was dreading having to fix my shifting issue my indicator was not working and I could never get into gear and even worse I would be in OD and the transmission would jut put itself into drive 2. Issue is solved now and it took minimal time and effort to fix. I can’t thank you enough for the video

Thank you so much. $12 and I'm good as new. Great video I followed everything except the vice grips, I used a t-30 b quarter-inch ratcheting wrench and it worked.

So many amateurs make it painful to watch these videos. What good is it to show us how to fix something when the camera is facing elsewhere?

I watch a guy make easy work of this by dropping the column...BUT, that was on an F-series truck and it had easy access bolts to loosen the column. However, my 2005 e150 does not have the other two bolts in the further in underneath the dash. It looks like I'd have to remove or loosen the 3 torx bolts facing the firewall, which only seem accessible by a 10 tear old with skinny flexible arms, 😂 😂. I think your option might be the best...remove the dash...

@@saneauto hey-yo, I did my bushings today. I went with your method, would have had the whole thing completed in 1 hour...except for the fact that the indicator light for the remote start was mounted thru the lower left hand side of the dash panel and the installer left about about two inches of slack in the wires. So, I had to cut them and solder in an extra 1ft. of wire, so that, one, I could solder the cut wire with a little bit of working room and the extra 1 ft. will allow me to place the dash panel up on top of the dashboard if I ever have to get back in there again. Although, the bushing replacement made a big difference, it didn't take all the slop out at the indicator arrow. My conclusion is that the plate at the bottom of the shifter shaft has worn also. My finished project now looks like your demonstration at the beginning of your video. Which is a far cry from what it was. I can live with a little slop, at least the movement stays over the position indicated. Before I had about a letter and a have of movement, so It was hard to be sure of what gear I was in...thanks again. Cheers!

Great video you saved me money. you just Gained a new subscriber. I have a question tho I hope you can help me for some reason it’s still showing the wrong gear when it’s on park the little gauge it’s on R & when it’s in reverse the gauge marks N & so on. is that a different thing I have to fix or were the new bushings supposed to fix that to & maybe I did something wrong ?

Theres a little cable and cable housing goes from the column to the needle in the instrument cluster. Youll have to look at it and see if needs adjusted or got stretched etc. Come back and let me know what you find.

Cut notches out of the plastic so the torq bit will fit. Is there a reason that wont work?
@raynic117312 күн бұрын
11:36, Autozone has them for certain years: Dorman - OE Solutions Steering Column Shift Tube Damper for Ford 92-11, Lincoln 02-03 and Mercury 05-07. EDIT: I got the replacement part for the shifter handle, called a damper, it's rubber and made no improvement over my old one. I'm bringing them back. Ffs, it actually comes with two identical pieces and cost $15 for the pair....what assholes they are...some dickhead at Dorman, probably got a promotion for that little piece of sleazy policy....

So much easier to loosen the steering column. This is just extra unnecessary work.
@saneauto2 жыл бұрын
Why would you think twisting around upside down under the column is easier?
@mike.s11662 жыл бұрын
DO NOT DO THIS!!!!! TAKE THE STEERING COLUMN BOLTS OFF,DROPS DOWN TO GET AT SHIFT TUBE,PLENTY OF ROOM FOR SOCKETS AND WRENCHES.
