Only Porsche has consistenly shown the same drive to automotive perfection. This actually did a great personafication of Lee Iococca. If you really know about the US car industry, Lee did revive tons of failed company. Ford being one of them and it was because of him, Ford boomed in the 60s and 70s from a period of slump and when Chrysler was in danger during the mid-70s to early 90s, he was the one that brought them back from the brink of bankruptcy by revitalizing Dodge and pulling Chrysler in general from catastrophe.

Iococca was the sole reason Chrysler accumulated a $20B reserve so they would never need another bail out. But he's also the reason Mercedes came in and swept it all away, leaving behind not a single cent.

True, but the DFV (Default 4-Valve) was built by a private company, Cosworth, in England; Ford bought it in I think 1967. They may have pumped money in, but they didn't really do any engineering.

Nation Gurung Yes but that would never happen, just like Ferrari doesnt have FIAT badge. Its one thing to put the logo on something because you bought the project, but to invent, develop, test and fine tune the product is something else, which is something Ford, nor any of the Ford related employes, didn’t do in case of DFV engine. Almost the same applys to Ford Gt40 aswell, where only the last generation of mk4 was actually developed by Ford, while all the previous incarnations were purely British made, and then stuffed with Ford engine and badge.

I met Leo Beebe around 1989. He was an incredibly intelligent man and I don't doubt he was outstanding in the world of business. But I also found him kind, polite and accommodating. One of the very few things I didn't like about this film.

Ford is 1 of the American 🇺🇲 car Companies that has done it all. 4in line - V12'', economy milage, family SUV's, Bronco off road and Raptor, Mustangs street racers, F1 Jaguars, several Nas cars, Working trucks like the 4x4's, and a Super car like The Ford GT40.

Ferrari has 2 legacies. One is his ability to make amazing cars. The other is his ability to piss other people off and make them make their own amazing cars. Lamborghini is the best example here. One day, a man buys a Ferrari 250 GT and decides to give feedback to old man Ferrari; namely, the clutch (which was unreliable) and the interior (which was too barebones). Old man Ferrari responds by saying "if you think you know so much about sports cars, go build one yourself". It just so happened that the man that Ferrari was talking to was a certain tractor maker named Ferruccio *Lamborghini*. I think you can see where this is going.

But then a few seconds later he said Ferrari is broke because he spent all his money "chasing perfection". So... he wants Ford to do the same and end up being bankrupt as well?

They would attempt and fail to buy Ferrari, but the point was more about giving Ford a kick in its complacency. Ford has been so content with being seen as reliable that it was failing to aim bigger and it was for that reason why Ferrari was the best. If Ford wants to be the best, it needed to get off its laurels and its marketing specialists, and throw everything they had the same way Ferrari was to even have a chance. Ken Miles, Carol Shelby, and their team would continuously fight against a company resistant to change to prove this point and eventually win.
