My Grandfather spent a long time in Europe in the 50's and 60's. Had all sorts of trouble with his car until a German (I believe) gave him this same advice. "You American's baby your cars too much. Stop treating it like a toy and drive the damned thing!" That was the last of his car troubles.

Ken's right about sportscars. Just like old bmws like e46 and e36 with button lifters. When you drive them short distances, the lifters doesn't get enough oil pumped up in them which leads to a cold start misfire like there's too much lobe from a thumping V8. You got to drive them over 2k rpms at operating temperature on the highway to get them going.

1:34, they could've chose a more appropriate car horn sound effect. Considering this is supposed to take place in the early 60s, American cars didn't have high pitched horns like that. That one was literally a modern car horn sound effect. They couldn't find an old car horn sound effect to use? They couldn't use a sound effect from an old movie or something? I know it's a nitpick no one will pay attention to but still.
@ryanbolson234 жыл бұрын
Don’t worry, I’m not even a big car guy but I noticed that too. I’d say it’s just a big communication error between sound and video. Sound engineers probably got a request for a car horn, they went in and got one they had on file and sent it to the editors. But no one communicated that it was for an older car would be my guess, and I’d be willing to guess that a Hollywood editor does know much about cars let alone oldies. So they just threw it in without a second thought.

Of course, the gas being burned back in the lead days, didn't have the amount of detergent in today's. Some of the folks at stoplights revving their 300 degree duration cams may have actually been trying to burn off the lead residue so the points ignition had a chance. Nowadays this customer could be sent down the road to buy a Miata. And that's not an insult. Had the customer driven in a Corvette, he could have had his 370+ hp 327 or 350 detuned the way he wants. An extra head gasket, a truck hydraulic camshaft that only needs one valve lash, and a 2bbl low riser intake from an Impala.

So this guy is driving it around like a diesel dump truck essentially, going up hills in top gear around say 1400rpm with the pedal 3/4 of the way to the floor wondering WHY ARE MY SPARK PLUGS FOULED!? lol not even the worst part, the worst part is the carbon build up on the piston tops that will create hot spots and eventually burn a hole through. sucks to suck I guess. ; ) I miss the old days when engines weren't idiot proof, so only people who knew what they were doing could drive them.
