Please help my channel by hitting the subscribe button. When I left the ($500) deposit for my Maverick back in January, They gave me a print out of the total price for my build. When the truck arrived, They told me the price was going to be $5000 more. I handed them the contract and informed them THIS was the price. They took me to the finance gal who I enformed, would not be financing anything. There was nothing she could do. I refused all the pacs and GAP and pre-paid maintenance. I handed her my debit card and she rang up the truck just like that and done. It was the quickest purchase of a vehicle I have ever experienced.

Ford manufactured the truck.....They don't want to buy it back. It's the dealer that wants it back to add a markup. Ford along with other manufacturers are having some difficulty with parts so your theory is a not correct!

Possible. I bought a 2012 Outback in 12. Within a few months the dealership wanted to buy it back. Apparently people.wanted a 12 Suby really bad. At that time was the Sunami in Japan so Suby parts were not shipping to Indiana. Once parts flowed the 2012s were shipped as fast as they were made. I just happened to get a call that the dealership had one arrive and I took it. Apparently they would have made money if I traded in or sold back to them to sell. Nothing special about the car except a shortage.

You should go down to the dealer and see what they are charing for used Mavericks. I'll bet they are selling them for new car prices because of the high demand. So, here's their plan: They hose you on the trade in, sell your Maverick for a big markup, and hose you again on the new car you buy. This has nothing to do with the dealer really wanting your car. Some sales support consultant has told lots of dealers to do this as a way of keeping their dealer on top of your mind. I had the same thing happen when I purchased a 2018 Ford Escape. I had the car for less than a month and they were already pestering me to buy it back with phone calls and constant mailers. When I called them just to see what was going on they had no interest in actually buying my car unless it was for 60 cents on the dollar. It was just a complete waste of time and energy on everyone's part. It finally stopped when I called the sales manager and said any further sales pitches would result in me going to a different dealer in the future. He claimed the owner of the dealership had gone to a seminar and was sold this service to increase repeat sales. Stupid is as stupid does.

It has everything to do with the dealer wanting his Maverick. These are in high demand. Ford will not let dealers jack up the price on new vehicle purchases, so dealers are hounding current Maverick owners to trade in their barely used Mavericks and reselling them for huge profits. A quick search will show that these trucks with a sticker price under $30K are going for upwards of $45K as used vehicles (because Ford can't dictate what used vehicle prices). Dealers have been even known to take their brand new vehicles to dealer only auctions and sell them there. A dealer buying a new vehicle at auction can then sell it as a used vehicle with warranty and all and charge whatever they want.

I bought a 2022 Maverick XLT FX4, and so far am totally happy with it. These kind of annoying calls are from greedy dealers across the country. I had a new 2018 Accord Hybrid Touring and I was getting these emails and texts from Honda dealers before I used up the second tank of gas. They do this because some people will 'bite' because they're the type that trade in their vehicle as soon as a bird craps on it. They feel the need to impress their neighbors, and just have to have the latest model in everything. I remember when the iPhone came out, and subsequent models since, there were (and are) obsessed fanatics that actually slept on the sidewalk outside the store, for three days just to be the FIRST to get the new phone. It's an ABNORMAL obsession with technology.

Dealerships got letters from Ford that if they continue to mark up the cars and trucks they would lose their allocations. So in some respects that they need to sell the new vehicle at MSRP. But if they do a buyback it becomes a used vehicle and they are not restricted to sell at MSRP. Regardless they are scum bags. I appreciate your view, I really do, but it’s your dealer that’s trying to get your car back. If you’d like to add Ford credit as a potential benefactor, that’s fine, but most people are already financing their truck. I’m an owner of a 22 XLT FX4 4K tow package Maverick, went to my dealer today and was offered your same deal that you have spoken of here. Ford is losing money on these trucks, and the uptick in pricing shows that, if they were losing, prices would 5-6 thousand dollars more not 2k on the 23’s. Really enjoyed your opinion, thought I’d give mine. Should also add that most people whom ordered their 22 maverick locked in 1.9 apr which is incredible and not a ton of extra revenue in the grand scheme of things. For my 32k priced truck my interest is like $1500. It should be said that I added warranties and service packages that are included on that interest, I’ll let you figure out my down because I’d rather not disclose that openly. Cheers

I believe you hit the nail on the head. It's not about one manufacturer it's about interest rates. The banks have to find some way to slow the automotive bubble. Getting another car increases your interest rates which can help offset the millions of cars they have sitting in parking lots they can't sell. Many many with hardly any miles on them at all. The market drove extremely high for about 24 months and the cost of vehicles to dealers was extremely high and they spent it because they were in a bidding war and the banks carried their lots. In the car lot world the banks tend to floor plan everything you see on their parking lot which means they pay interest while the vehicle sits on their lot but they can buy whatever vehicles they want at auction or trade in. The bank charges of a very small percentage of interest for each car on their lot while it sits on their lot the moment they sell they required to pay in full for that vehicle back to whoever the financial institution that backs their lot is. A lot of these lots including new dealerships are sitting very very deep in their used inventory. It's not about marking up the vehicle for resale it's about the interest kickbacks they get for new loans.

Dealerships are marking up the new Corvette which was recently in the news by $60,000 (If I remember correctly). It could be slightly higher/lower but it's the Dealerships. Please correct your video as others have pointed this out as well.

Ironically this is how I ended up with a Maverick. They started pestering me after I did a recall on an old Ford car. But honestly I do love my Maverick. It's just business to them. If you love it great. There's bound to be people who want something different. They need trade ins and they need sales, so getting you with a vehicle, any vehicle is a huge win.

Ford is holding the dealerships accountable from not jacking us, the customer, around with crazy markups. They threatened dealerships and have even announced selling directly to the customer fairly recently to bypass the dealership shenanigans but because of certain laws in place they aren't doing that yet and I think they started charging/fining dealerships for brand new vehicle markups. If I was a greedy dealership I would sell the new or ordered vehicles at MSRP and then send the new vehicle owners a letter or email saying that we will buy the truck back essentially brand new. Then, the dealership will pass off more money to the customer and the customer thinks that they are making profit meanwhile the dollar continues to spiral to less and less value. But ALSO, the main reason, the vehicle comes back to the dealership as a used vehicle which then the dealership can mark it up $20,$30,$40k and Ford can't do thing about it.

Wow. I didn't know Ford remade the Maverick into a truck. My great uncle Elvin left me his 67' Maverick and a 79' Mustang. Sad to say my mom totaled my Maverick and blew up the Mustang. I didn't ever get to drive either one. Oh well, shhh it happens. We used to take trips everywhere in that Maverick. The heater core was out, and in the winter it would be so cold, our breath would fog up the windows in that big steel boat. Plus, the car had no friggin power steering. Mom said it made her strong turning the wheel in it. I miss my mom much, this video made me think about her smiling with the windows down swerving and a Marlboro in one hand tryin to turn the wheel.😀

I used to get the same type of letters, texts, and emails from my RAM dealer. These finally stopped when the truck reached the 8 year mark. My RAM 1500 is still has low mileage and is in excellent condition, so I'll be driving it for at least another 10 years. FYI - I considered replacing it this year, but I can't locate a new one with a V8 HEMI and I don't want a 6-cylinder or a diesel engine.

As you said, a product in demand, you make more product! Orrrrrr, you keep the demand high artificially and increase profit without increasing production. It's funny, they can build the high end trims, but for some reason the base trims are restricted due to 'supply chain issues'. The world has gone crazy, up is down...

Mr. Gibson, Nearly every single point you made is brilliant and correct. The fact that FORD paid more to make your truck than you paid for it. The fact that they are making these trucks to "buffer" their CAFE fuel economy averages so they can sell the bigger, more "profitable" trucks. Also the fact that they only made enough of them to satisfy the government mandates, rather than ramping up production to fulfill the demand that's still out there... Here is where things are slightly different than your theory... FORD doesn't want your truck back per se... Your local DEALER wants it back because they know they can sell it for a profit only because they know that FORD isn't going to make more to meet the demand. Local Dealers buy the vehicles from FORD and then sell those vehicles for a profit. The DEALERS didn't know how popular the "NEW" Mavericks would be and thought they were "cheap" entry level vehicles that would give them a few extra unit sales each month, which is true, but then the DEALERS realized that FORD isn't going to make more of them and they can now be big profit makers and want you to trade your Maverick in so they can re-sell it for big profits due to supply and demand. Long story short, the DEALER wants your truck back and FORD is out of the loop as soon as the DEALER pays FORD for the vehicles from the factory.

Great video. Do you have the AWD? What’s the MPG for the AWD version? My small rebuttal is, I have a Subaru, the dealer sends me those buy back letter, they make money in the trade and sell. Second is I work in manufacturing, A lot of factories are at capacity with this white hot economy. Can’t get parts, or workers. Supply chain is broken. People want top pay and don’t show up to work.

Our Outback dealership has been wanting us to trade in our Subaru and we’ve only had it for just over a year. What people don’t understand is that the dealership can sell low mileage vehicles for a greater profit than a new vehicle. Furthermore every dealership gets 4% kickback from the manufacturer for every new vehicle they sell. The dealership is like Vegas, the house wins and the consumer gets it in the rear end.

The part you’re missing as others have pointed out is that Ford motor company and the Ford dealer are two completely separate companies. Your suspicion that the dealer wants to buy your truck and resell for it higher price is correct that’s what dealers do but has absolutely nothing to do with Ford Motor in Dearborn Michigan. Also the Ford manufacturing plant that builds Mavericks in Mexico also builds the popular Bronco Sport model. That plant is running at full capacity. Also with the truck being built in Mexico rest assured Ford Motor is making money on every Maverick. Last thing, the popularity of the Maverick even caught Ford by surprise. Guarantee they are looking for manufacturing capacity at other probably Louisville to increase production but this takes time. Have a good day.

As everyone else mentioned, it's the dealer who wants your truck back. Ford has nothing to do with it once it's sold to the dealership -not you. Ford doesn't sell direct to customers -legal ownership of the truck and transaction is between Ford and their dealer. It is then a "sale" between the dealership and customer. That's part of the reason why they have a tough time enforcing the "sell at MSRP" practice. Ford completely underestimated the demand for the Hybrid model and this truck -period! How they made the assumption that an EB would be more popular is beyond me. Those that need the power of the EB (likely to tow or haul) would buy a Ranger. They are now finding out that most buyers are coming from a car and don't really want a truck except for the convenience of a box and the outstanding fuel economy. It does cost Ford alot more today to build a Hybrid due to battery production constraints and a ton more electronics to drive (no pun intended) the tight integration of the electric& gas motors. So - Ford is in a dilemma given the fact that this super popular hybrid version is way outpacing EB but unfortunately, scheduling and parts forecasts for all the engine components and the engines themselves are done well ahead of production so it's really tough for them, in short order -to have their engine factories shift production to more hybrid engines over the EB. You can see now in '23 - the EB is less expensive -partially due to increased hybrid component costs but also - a guess on my part -to make the EB more attractive to buyers given the lower cost over the Hybrid. PS: Glad to hear that you stuck to your guns on the pricing - those games are why not very many people "value" the dealership experience. To be honest -good on you for having the cash to buy outright -but the better financial play on a '22 would have been to have taken 0% 36mths Ford financing and leave your cash invested. Even at 2-3% interest, you would be $500-$700 ahead after 3 years. It costs you -as a buyer nothing to finance a vehicle purchase. Leasing -on the other hand -is an entirely different thing with all kinds of hidden costs and penalties. Yes - I so despise the "finance office" visit where they pitch you all kinds of add-ons always positioned as "only $x.00 a month more".. I never take any of the options and usually tell them up front that I am only interested in what was on the original contract but if they can find me lower financing and they can make a commission -I'm all for it. Most times -they can't beat either Ford's or my credit union's offers.

I understand what you are getting at with Ford being unprepared for the demand. But now we are talking about the second and third year runs. And Ford is sticking with the first year's production numbers. They already know what the demand will be but won't exceed their self imposed quota.
