Really interesting story you’ve produced here, thanks for sharing. Yes, the manufactures have been having issues of their own, but in my opinion, dealerships in general have really been going down the toilet these past couple years. We had one of THE WORST dealership experiences this past summer. Went to an Infinity dealership to look at a used car and test drive it and when it came time to sit down in the sales office they added $5,000 worth of “general fees” onto the bill. When we said we wouldn’t pay 5k over sticker for a 2 year old car these said ok give us a minute. Came back 15 minutes later and said they had just sold the car to someone else then had the audacity to ask us if we wanted to purchase any other car on their lot…got up and walked right out of the dealership. Now the owners of a 2020 Q50 that we purchased for $4,000 less than the “listing price” at the Infinity dealership with fees included, and from a Chevy dealership of all places. 😂

To add insult to injury to the times we are in now my 2005 accord was hit and totaled a couple months ago and I decided to replace it with a newer civic. Paid $2,000 more for a 2016 civic than it cost brand new in 2016 (35k miles)

The Dealership racket over the past 2 years just proves that you should be able to by direct from the manufacturer. If you are rich enough you can, but us common folk get extorted by the Dealership.

I'm entertaining the possibility that production not meeting demand may in fact be intentional, for the purpose of creating forced scarcity. I haven't yet worked out how this would potentially help a manufacturer, but I refuse to believe that after over a century of automotive production, they all of a sudden have completely lost their ability to gauge demand and properly produce cars. After a century, they all the sudden just forget how and suck at their business? What would their profits be like if EVERYONE who wanted these vehicles was able to buy one from them? Easy..their profits would improve. It just doesn't add up, which tells me there may be ulterior motives at play here.

I was fairly lucky with my Maverick. In 21' when i first placed my order with a dealer, it was for the Lariat 2.0 EcoBoost. Then I realized i really should get the 4k tow package and that's when it was possible to order the 4k with FWD. Ford realized FWD wasn't enough to tow 4k safely so they upgraded 500 or so customers to AWD. I was told the AWD upgrade was going to be actually $1,000 more than the $34,000 total price. Well, the dealer didn't raise the price, but I ended up paying a total of $37,000. Still much better than the price gouging I've been hearing about. I've had my Maverick Lariat since June of 22' and have been very happy with it

I kinda agree that your point of comparison based on the mustang vs Maverick production abilities. The major differences between the eras is in 1964, 90% of the production of the parts used were made here in America and competition wasn’t competing as much. Now every thing is outsourced from different countries, and the manufactures that are building the parts are building parts for multiple companies. Remember, in 1964, how many different major car companies were there maybe 10? The Japanese and Koreans weren’t really an imposing thing then, was till the 80’s that we truly started to change our ways of manufacturing to compete with the price points that the Japanese auto manufacturers could sell at. We’ve also got to take into account that Ford, today, their biggest selling vehicle dwarfs a lot of other auto manufacturers and that vehicle class is the F series trucks, especially the super duty platform. So, I’m saying that there’s a ton to consider than the base level they did this then why can’t they do that now, I’m just scratching the very tip of the surface of a conversation that could consume a books worth of words. Also, on your point to Ford wanting your Maverick back, I’m sure that Ford as a whole didn’t expect it too blow up like this in 2022. Again, Ford made a prediction of about how many they could sell and pre ordered their associated needed production parts to do said job, all while opening a brand new production facility. It’s honestly amazing how fast they’re turning these trucks out at this price point, another nail in the coffin for why dealers can’t keep them in stock. I was one of the original comment or stating about the dealer wanting your truck back and would also like to add that I stand by that statement. The dealer has already made the money on these trucks, that are the hottest commodity right now. Of course they still want the truck back, who in the PRIVATE dealership world wouldn’t want a truck back that can be sold for more used than new, also due to Ford corporate cracking down on dealer gouging. Anyways, I appreciate your take, just adding a different point of view. Thank you for what you do.

My beloved grandma bought me my first car in March 1965, the year I was graduating from HS... a Champagne Beige Mustang. Brand new off the Ford lot of new cars on University & Lomas NW. I will never forget the feel of the car when I drove the car home. If I remember correctly I think the base sticker price was around 1.7K$. Albuq.

It's a lot more complicated than you think The automakers, who have experienced recessions, quickly canceled orders for parts with computer chips, thinking auto sales would nosedive. Sales of new cars did plummet initially, but quickly rebounded with pent-up demand and 0% financing offers. Also, dealers figured out how to sell vehicles online, offering home pickup and delivery. So when the factories restarted, the stronger-than-expected demand for new vehicles outpaced production and has yet to catch up. Automakers and suppliers that use chips contacted their chipmakers and put back their orders,By then, chip capacity was consumed by other businesses - phones, computers, video games - as people worked and schooled from home now. Global chip production is monopolized by a few global companies and Asia-Pacific suppliers and one of those actually had a factory burned down. So to sum it up when the pandemic hit orders stopped for chips so factories stopped from creating product that they couldn’t sell, but when everything started picking back up, there was more demand, than the ability to make them because now they were behind schedule and no longer had a surplus that is why we’re having a problem with automakers, including other items in the market

The only thing they could not get me was one the commodity item added which was the spray-in bed liner. Did you ever find out how much they would pay you for your Maverick? You didn't mention it in the other video and you didn't in this video. That makes this video incomplete. The way I see this situation is Ford would rather make the same amount of money making less Mavericks. They can charge more for them because the demand makes the supply scarce. When they made 400,000 they made money and people paid less for Mustangs because they were plentiful. Except they need more material, workers and more truckers to ship them. They had to employ more people and pay more wages. They don't want to make less while more workers have jobs and the consumer can buy a less expensive, better quality cars. No we couldn't have that.
