Great video, like the background music. Classical is so good for workouts ! Wow 50 in a very short time. I'm turning 70 in a few months , so this is a realistic goal for me as well. I can do sets of 15 now several times a day . but i am really ready to push myself harder to maintain upper body strength and lower abs firm . Do you do planks ? how long should i strive to hold that position ?

I love motordrives, some happy 1970's and 80's memories for me right there. Thanks for doing the video. I have an MD4 motordrive for my Nikon F3. And with the dedicated SB16A flashgun you can apparently take shots at the MD4's 4.5 frames a second and all the frames will still be properly flash exposed. Although I haven't actually tried it yet.

“The Evo big twins have been replaced by inferior engines”. Haha get over yourself, technically all Harley Davidson’s have inferior engines; they’re all crap compared to Japanese and European twins. Twin Cam and M8’s make way more power than Evo’s and they are just as reliable.

Just Great, my name is Walter and I will be 65 in Oct. I have a Nikon Shooter since my grandpa gave me my first Nikon back in 1978 , it was a Nikon FM and I used this camera through all my University and more into the mid 90's. It was such a JOY.... But in the late 90's I did jump into Digital Photography with Nikon too.... Today I do have my Nikon D500, also my Nikon D750 and recently I purchased my first mirrorless Nikon Z50.... Today I am feeling a little nostalgic and thanks to your review of the FG, I'm going to get me one, I still have my old Nikkor's AI lenses from the 80's that still works and take great pictures. My Grandpa had a Nikon F and also a Leica M1.... Nikon is been in my family since the 50's... Well, I think that the FG, based on your review, will be a decent acquisition for me to ease my nostalgia!!!!

Motor drives are a MUST!

Back in the day (circa 1976) the very first camera I ever saw with a motor drive was a Topcon SuperDM. The F had one but I hadn't seen one until much later. Although some motodrives would rewind the film in truth the winder was just a slow motordrive, no more and no less. A friend bought a used Canon "winder" for his original F1 and it was 1.5 to 2 frames a second: i.e a dog. I had the same Nikon F2 camera with the MD-3 motor drive you've shown, and with alkaline batteries I'd be lucky to get three frames a second. The F3's motor MD-3 without the Nikon ni-cad pack was about the same. What the motor/winder REALLY gave me was the ability to keep my eye to the viewfinder. I didn't have to move the camera away from my eye, wind the film, find the viewfinder again, refocus my eye and then be ready to shoot. I'd miss shots, it was as simple as that. Now I didn't. A photographer was asked once if a motor drive actually improved his photography and he said (and I think that this answer applies to EVERY advance in photography), "Well it means that I have a bad day less often."

WOW! Amazing how fast the last 2 Auto-drive from Nikon and Canon are. Long time ago, I bought a Minolta Winder G which would be 2 frame/sec for my X570. and shortly later, I got a Auto-drive 1 which can go to 3 1/2 frames/sec for my X700. I thought these motor drive were pretty fast then. However, I never really shot in continuous mode, the motor drive help me to have a better grip and save me from manual advance of the film.

I'm a lucky owner of an OM-3Ti and lots of those fabulous Zuiko f2.0 lenses, but back in the late seventies, I was a student and a freelance photographer for a newspaper. Then I needed the best flash there was. Braun made the best ones then with a TTL cable. That cable was really expensive, maybe 1/4 of the purchase price of the Braun VC410. As you know, OM-2 had the best metering system and it stearded the flash whatever. Always perfect metering. The later Ti-3 and Ti-4 have even better, maybe the best in the analog world. I think my Ti-3 can match a new Nikon Zf in metering, at least my old Canon 5D MkII.

I've got two OM2n (MD)'s with 50mm f1.8, 135mm f3.5 and a 28mm f2.8. I have either one or the other of these cameras with me all the time. The LR/SR44 batteries rated at 1.5v alter the metering, but it's an easy fix/mod for a pro camera repairer. With the exception of the prism, the camera body is almost exactly the same size as a Leica M6. They're much lighter in weight than my cumbersome (but indestructible) Nikon F2's which is why I favour them for every day carry. Also, the Olympus lens range (comparably smaller and lighter as well) is second to none. I don't know if it's true or not, but I've heard that the build quality of the SP is slightly inferior to that of the other single-digit OM range. If multi-spot metering is your thing (with a manual film camera), just buy the peerless Canon T90.

Thank you for the comments. For decades the OM-2n has been my favorite camera for all the same reasons you listed. I recently picked up the 2SP just because the price was so good. I didn't have any expectations but when I realized it was based on the OM-4 rather than the OM-2, with a mechanical shutter speed, I was drawn in. I also liked the 2SP's Spot or Area metering but have no regard for taking multi spot readings . Anyway I finally picked up an OM-4Ti and it is even more my favorite now!

The lever of the finder that doesn't return looks to me indeed like a mechanical problem. That being said, I've read somewhere that they changed the operation of the lever on newer models so you didn't need to reset it when you wanted to put the finder back but I really don't know enough to tell you more about it. I don't want to use radioactive glass although I don't know if it is really harmful or not. Make at least sure you don't take it close to your eyes when it's not mounted on the camera. I have an XK which has the same sort of issues with the mirror lock. I haven't found a solution and I'm probably not going to put much effort into finding one because I don't shoot film anymore. I bought the camera because it is a relic from the past and, apart from the mirror lock problem, in a pretty good condition and cheap.

I have never, in the past couple of decades, found a car trip computer that was accurate. I have driven my current car over 97,000 miles and my actual number is 26.01 MPG total average. The trip computer normally reads 1.5 to 2.5 MPG higher than that. That said, your mileage is still really good for what you are driving.

I have NIB examples of all versions/colors of the bodies and most lenses.. some junk too for parts etc.. lots of OM-10 donors for Pentaprisms.. but most are in working condition... i've let a few of my duplicates go to new homes.. i just wish I had a place to display and share these beautiful cameras.. most people don't care about them.. for now, they live packed away in a store room of one of my offices.. less a couple i keep at home that i occasionally shoot with.. I mostly shoot Sony mirrorless now.. occasionally with a E to OM adapter to fit a nice zuiko up front..

This was a joined venture of ATG & Minolta. During late 60's, companies have to change or die if they stay with full mechanical. ATG came & assisted with electronic. While dated Hasselblad didn't. Four decades later, ATG/Shirro owned Hasselblad. Back to Minolta, ATG informed serious/professional photographers about mirror locked-up. And this series need battery. X-1 was sold in Japan, but the bread & butter was the XK, sold in USA. Since many were using Canon F-1 & Nikon F2 systems, many simply can not afford to switch. So the Minolta X series & Pentax LX (by ATG), Rolleiflex 3003 (by ATG) & Olympus M-1, OM-1, OM-2/3/4 (by father/ATG) died. Many didn't know that ATG's Contax 645 put Hasselblad & Rolleiflex in the history book. And ATG/Asian's Hasselblad does not use German's optics, but with ATG/Japan optics. Nevertheless, the Minolta X-1 (A-1, had to be changed like the ATG's father's M-1), XK & XM are fine masterpieces. Since this X series are over 50 years old, many staffs & photographers are dead. So true information were buried with them.

There is no point in buying a Minolta with a Leica badge. R4 had electrical problems and some of the dials were not long lasting, R3 seems to have been a bit more reliable. Up until a few years ago though, they were a good platform to get into the proper Leica made R lenses that are superb and were less than half the price of their M equivalents, but sadly in the last few years with the bandwagon of Leica this and Leica that the price of Rs have shot up beyond reason. Three years ago you could get an R6.2 in good shape for around £300.00. Now you are looking at double that for a so so model, and lets not talk about the lenses. You might as well buy a decent minolta and save yourself a lot of money, unless you want to show off the red circle.

Everyone has to realize Leitz only approached minolta because minolta had something Leitz needed! Leitz had no experience making electronic cameras. All they ever made were mechanical cameras. By the 1970's Leitz had the choice; modernize or go out of business. Starting from scratch would have taken them many years. Engineering wise, everything came from minolta. Lietz didn't have anything to bring to the table.

Thank you for sharing your report. I appreciate your videos about the analog Minoltas very much, because I also take pictures with them more often. Unfortunately I still miss an X-1 in my assortment. But I have a lot of other SLRs from Minolta at my disposal. Starting with an SR-1 and SR-7 we continue with various SR-T models. Chronologically we continue with XE-1, XE-5, XD-7, XD-5 and XD-S. After that I collected different XG models and the X-300, X-500 and X-700. Most of the models still work today. Except for the well-known capacitor problem of the X-700. But the individual camera models also want to be used. It is not for nothing that they say: he who rests, rusts. Anyway, it's still a lot of fun to shoot with the analog MF devices. Later, the AF cameras from Minolta were added. Also a great pleasure to take photos with it. It's nice to see there are still Minolta users.

Right out of High School in Hawaii, I got a job selling cameras & film in Waikiki and got a deal on a couple of Minolta cameras (XE-5/XE-7) along with a spot meter 4, flash & slave, and a few portrait lenses. Those quickly became my favorite non surf photography cameras (Nikon FM2/F3 with a 300 mm f2.8 AF- hard to beat & useful on both AF & non-AF Nikons, but heavy). The Minoltas were quiet, smooth, easy to hold for long periods, as well as durable. Plus, they had really nice lenses. I still have the XE-7 w/50mm 1.4, but the shutter was toasted years ago & lens got dropped one too many times, but it looks cool next to the Retina 3C, Brownie Target, and Polaroid. Thanks for the video, nice to see other folks appreciating Minolta cameras.
