I have been to the Stray Dog 13 times in 4 years, 3 times in a week this year. Sat in every section, including the rooftop. I live in Addison, IL, and I go to Grand Rapids on jobs for my company. (I'm planning on moving to GR in the future, and spend one summer week per year in New Buffalo.) The Stray Dog is my favourite Michigan restaurant. Two years ago, I had the opportunity to take my wife there in the summer, and she loved it. Of course there are a lot of restaurants and brewpubs in West Michigan alone, Grand Rapids area especially. I've been to a handful of them, and each one I've been to are very unique in their own way, and always look forward to trying new places too. We also took our dog to Villa Nova Pizzeria in New Buffalo further east in town, good pizza there, and the staff is extremely friendly. But nothing compares to the Stray Dog and its mystique and charm. It's the first restaurant in the first town to greet you when you come to Michigan, and the last to see you off when you leave. I can tell you straight up I fear leaving Michigan, because when I do, I just want to go back. I'm happy you enjoyed it there as much as I did.

Rich Michigan is a beautiful state and the areas you visited are about a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10. I wish you could see the really beautiful parts, you would be in awe. Please come back and visit us often, we love having you here.

Almost in Indiana. In the early 1970s, I did school photos at Three Oaks Elementary on the Pulaski Highway. I had a 1971 Ford Pinto...yeah...the "good 'ol days"...

I have eaten at the Stray Dog and they have excellent food and good service.Great views from the site and in the summer there are a lot of yachts along the condos.Enjoy!

Wood Fire Grill heading out of town towards 94 on the left next to Dollar General is the best place in town. Hands down! Give it a shot. I was married in the Beer Church when it was a Methodist Church back in the 80’s. I have lived here my whole life.

Living in Indiana and running 94 through Chicago to our kids in Iowa I can relate. In my case it’s not necessarily the roads but the traffic in Chicago I hate! I don’t know how you drive that EVERY DAY!

Try redamaks next time when in New Buffalo it's cash only but best burger in New Buffalo. I will be making a trip to stray dog in next couple of months.

Rich there is a great restaurant in Charleston SC Poogan’s Porch HIS NAME WAS POOGAN As far as the little dog was concerned, Queen Street was his terrain. He had been a neighborhood fixture, graciously accepting table scraps and back scratches from every family on the block. He was no purebred fluffy puppy; he was a good ol’, down-home Southern porch dog and the porch at 72 Queen had become his favorite spot over the years. Poogan became the guardian of the fledgling restaurant. From his perch on the front porch, he presided over the renovation process, and when we opened our doors for business, he greeted our first guests warmly. The restaurant family cherished him. He became an institution. Poogan died a natural death in 1979. This building is his monument. You need to visit !

You had me with the puppy story. The menu at the Stray Dog looks great. All those nice choices and the kid orders a hot dog and fries. That Ahi Poke` bowl looked awesome. The roads in Michigan are bad for a reason. It is the home of the Motor City. They have to sell them new vehicles somehow.
