It`s so impressive to see Stig Blomqvist in the SAAB 96 With it`s relatively compared to the BDG powered Escorts weak engine. But I think they used 2 litre V4:s here that where taken to absolute max. Maybe around 185 bhp but with good torque. I think both factory SAAB:s retired with blown engines. And this was the last RAC rally for the 96 in an factory entry. Fantastic film by the way!! They had good traction and Stig knew how to swing them. But the limitations of FWD was shown when he got Saab 900 Turbo. Not able to keep pendulum around the corners like rwd cars, it struggled to keep up while shredding front tires like crazy and frequently braking halfshafts.

Hello, Calleskoga. 🙂 I am not from Sweden, but I also like the Saab 96 very much. As well as I like rallies in a way more intensive as usual. Of course it is a great merit of Stig Blomqvist that the type 96 was still very competitive in a period where already many cars had appeared on the rally tracks which were very specialized or prepared for competition. The records which are presented there are showing Stig Blomqvist and his Saab 96 from a very spectacular and monumental side (beside other attractions...). It's very fantastic to watch it. 🤩 I also find it great because of the special colour on this version of the Swedish works car. 🙂 What you also should know: I come from Austria, where the Alpenfahrt took place until 1973. Unfortunately, this was the year when I was born. So I didn't have the opportunity to watch this rally where Stig Blomqvist and Per Eklund had many fascinating fights on the stages. 😐

First RAC i went to ,didn't expect to see the Saab 96's in green ! took me by suprise in Broxa forest ,great mixture of car types !

Will Sparrow in the DTV Vauxall Firenza? Terry Kaby in the Triumph Dolomite Sprint? Superb footage well done ITV? and Dicky Davies. I was there somewhere in the Welsh Forests, and possibly Sutton Park. All my heros, well most of them anyway. Thank you.

Fantastic footage of real cars,my first car was a esxort mk1 1300e with slot mag wheels certainly wish I kept it

Fantastic video..I have the 📼 tape...Great to see Billy Coleman, Billy lost 6 minutes when the battery came loose in kielder, he could well have won his 2nd BRC if that didn't happen if he finished one place behind Clark it was Billys, fine margins from a golden era..and the Powerful Ford Team..and all the rest incredible entry of Different Car's.. @paddy Sullivan VHS 📼 1990s ireland.
