Fordson Major Differential worn and loose bearings

I've rebuilt the diff with new pinion thrust washers from a super which took some altering as I can't source the correct ones for a diesel major, it's all back in and set up and fingers crossed the thrust washers will bed it right, just need to finish rebulding the gearbox and half shafts now. I've not painted it yet but I will mainly rub most of it down with emery paper and have the wheels sand blasted so I don't get sand blasted back into the seals. Cheers Fletch

What signs did you notice that made you realise the diff was worn? I've just rebuilt my Majors gearbox with new bearings, transmission brake and seals and was hoping this would also encourage the old girl to freewheel a bit easier. Changing a tyre I'd noticed that trying to rotate the raised rear wheel was excessively (in my opinion) difficult! I'm thinking there could be a problem with my diff, especially as the left brake makes an awful clunk/grind when applied. I've checked the drum/shoes and all looks good in there!?

Interesting, should have checked mine before assembly line that too. Did you fix it and how did you prepare cast ion for paint job?
