Sounds lovely and nicely balanced to the size of the plough. We had the same plough on our farm years ago pulled by a MF 65 and later a MF 178.

Thank you. First tractor I ever drove was a Massey. They are classics, as no one needs telling. So is the Ransomes plough. It does its job so neatly.

Just about to start the resto of a Super Major, it is my Dads and was in daily use until a couple of years ago when it threw a rod under load and has languished in a shed ever since. Nice vid.

do you think a super major would pull a 14 inch 4 bottom ford 101 plow I have seen promotional films with them pulling one but seems a little far fetched if I need its only 4 bolts to make it a 3 bottom this is not a rollover plow thanks for your time great video

Don't know the plough you mention, but just looked it up on youtube. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIXGdqepe66fj8k This is a nice video. Shows Fords pulling three furrow ploughs with furrows set wider that the plough in my video. My guess is that the Super Major would pull the three furrow ploughs in the video, but only because the soil is relatively light. My Super Major wouldn't pull those three furrow ploughs, let alone a four furrow plough, in the heavy land we have in this part of Suffolk, England. So really depends on your soil type. By the way, the issue is more traction than power.

Thanks for the reply i think im going to try and make a deal on the plow its at my local newholland dealer im in northern canada and we have sandy soil in some areas or clay its hard to tell until your actually plowing as for traction i have 3 sets of rear weights plus tires are half filled with calcium i also got a set of front weights to help keep the front more stable thanks again

So i bought the 4 bottom plow and to my amazment it will actually pull it going down about 5-8inches the draft control really makes the difference the major is the most impressive tractor that packs an enormus punch i have to wait till harvest is over to plow some real feilds we had snow come down twice and its only September love your videos keep them coming

dunno why people put 6 cylinders in them the 4 cylinder major has plenty of power allot more than tractors of its size

I agree. It's about balance. Power vs grip. Ford could have put its six cylinder engine in front of this classic tractor, but its engineers declined to do so. A few people today think they know better. They don't.

A 6 cylinder does sound nicer than a 4 cylinder tbh but as stated to much power not enough grip, i have the same problem with my 2wd 8210 when ploughing but ive found out mines down weight and its not quite 4.5 tonne

Tractor sounds good looks a bit shabby which is a shame it deserves an overhaul and a lick of paint.

Tractor has been completely rebuilt. It spent 30 years in a hedge overgrown with ivy. Now wearing replacement tinwork. Cosmetically it may not impress, but I doubt there is a better one mechanically.

Check out the exhaust when idling and under load. Clean! Sign of a newly rebuilt engine. Ford 4D is as tough as nails.

Great tractor well worth restoring. Common mistake is to work a fifty year old engine hard. Worn big end bearing liners create play on the crankshaft, which leads to failure of the big end bearing bolts. If your block survived, a rebuild is a great idea.
