What is the difference between Plates and Documents? They seem like identical features.

Plates is dedicated to procedure plates, airport diagrams, and similar resources that are airport-specific, and if a particular plate is geo-referenced then you can view your position on it with a Pro Plus subscription and above. Documents is for regulatory and informational publications from various official sources like the FAA, ForeFlight's Pilot's Guide and other support resources, and any documents you import so they're accessible offline.

I would like to chime in regards to the iPad overheating issue question that was raised. What I do is make sure I have my iPhone handy and ready to use as a back-up at a moments notice. In regards to the actual iPad heating issue, I carry with me anytime I am going anywhere outside of my local area on a hot day a small cooler with ice gel packs and a small plastic container. If the iPad overheats, I un-snap it from the mount, but it in the plastic container and in the cooler for about 10 mins. There are probably even better solutions along those lines as well. Maybe instead of a cooler, find a small container that can hold an gel ice pack on both sides that you could put an iPad into.
