For anyone else trying this out, it helps to have a nice relaxed wrist, which will aid in brushing the paddle face against the ball. It’s a type of stroke that will develop through repetition, kinda like learning how to write or scramble eggs. As an experiment, try doing either of those with your non-dominant hand, and feel how stiff the action is comparing to the hand you’re used to using. You want to be able to brush the ball as easily as you might write your name. It helps to have a practice wall with different heights marked, so you can feel how to place the ball, but now with topspin.

A few more closeups of your paddle would be helpful to better see the paddle strike the ball. SLO mo is great too.

Are you going to do a video on crosscourt dinking? I seem to be able to hit a sharp crosscourt backhand, but when it comes back sharp crosscourt to my backhand seems like I am always scrambling to get to it. Any tips? Noticed the pros in videos seem to not hit really angled backhand crosscourt dinks. Maybe I'm causing my own problem? Is this where the around the post shot comes in?
@primetimepickleball5 жыл бұрын
Good thoughts Don! We may do a video on this. One thought that I do have is to try not to give your opponent the angle. If they hit a better backhand slice dink than you, you probably should stay away from it.

When you do these top spin/backspin videos it might be helpful to use one of those balls that's half different colored so we can actually see the spin. Just a thought😊

So the swing is diagonally up from the knee to the head slightly in front of you?
@primetimepickleball Жыл бұрын
You're turned, so it's not diagonal relative to your body. It may seem diagonal because you're hitting it cross court so it seems diagonal relative to the court. The key is to get your paddle head well under the ball and swipe up the back bottom.

Thank you for this video. I have been watching all your videos on topspin. I am a little confused as to whether or not the elbow is pulling the arm upward after hitting the shot. Is the brushing motion purely achieved by the angle of the shot or is the elbow pulling the arm upward after the contact point?
@primetimepickleball3 жыл бұрын
Focus on having a loose and relaxed shoulder and let the swing of the shoulder be what “sends” the elbow out. The elbow doesn’t “pull”, it is sent by the swing.
@exploringtheologychannel16973 жыл бұрын
@@primetimepickleball Thank you. I misspoke when I said pull. I guess I was talking about if the upward motion is exclusively from the shoulder or if the elbow pronates. For a while, I was keeping my elbow steady throughout the stroke. All the upward motion was from the shoulder. But as I watched your videos and other players, it seemed like the elbow was moving upward with the stroke. I also noticed when doing this that it adds a lot of spin to the ball. But the confusing part is that I never hear anyone actually saying to move the elbow up. I only hear the term brushing motion or high to low.

Do you keep a continental grip on this or switch to eastern?

More Eastern usually. Good question!

Is the top spin dink only done on the forehand. You didn't show the top spin dink on the backhand.
@primetimepickleball6 жыл бұрын
It is much easier with the forehand. The backhand would be much harder.

He makes this look way too easy. I'm an advanced player and I'll tell you this is a seriously difficult shot for most people, myself included. Once you start turning the panel angle it gets really easy to push the ball into the net.

Yes, it’s definitely an advanced shot!

Why won’t your videos view horizontally. The video will not rotate when I turn my iPhone in the horizontal position. All other KZbin videos allow rotating allowing for a larger screen. Please let me know as it is annoying.

Ok, great theory, but 95% of the time I attempt that, the ball stays on my side of the net. Point lost.

nope. Played both. PB is way funner. And easier to play in advancing years, easier t get a game, and to be honest the players are generally nicer. Much more sociable game. Look at the trend of Pickleball fans (incredible upswing) and tennis fans (pretty significant downswing) Countless takes around the country of nearly abandoned and overgrown courts being revived into huge PB communities. Jon the dark side. All your courts are belong to us.

I started with volleyball, then after too many years took up lazy-man’s volleyball (tennis), and now have moved too lazy-man’s tennis (pickleball). Still coach and play the first two, but find I sweat more with PB... fun sport!
