Hi Ben - great videos, keen ‘em coming. 2 things though (and I’m aware that I’m generalising but it’s based on my & my family’s travel experiences all over India) - buses in the Southern states are way better overall than those in North India - better in safety, connectivity, comfort and cost. Secondly, buses in TN have always been a cut above even amongst the southern states buses, especially in terms of connectivity (even to small villages & towns), efficiency and affordability.

I'm a resident of Chennai and buses are my main mode of transportation even today.. In case you are planning to travel to cities overnight from Chennai like Bangalore or Coimbatore, you should try the AC sleeper buses! They cost around 1000-1500 and you can sleep through the night. They are a lifesaver, especially for last minute plans because train seats need to be reserved well in advance while these buses can be booked just a day in advance as well. P.S. Random bus fact - did you know that women and senior citizens get to travel for free in some buses in Chennai? 😝

Bus Travel between larger cities is quite comfortable and definitely more economical. P. S. There are switches (buttons) on a panel near the driver which switches on the mobile charge points & reading lights. You have to ask the driver to switch it on - weird but I have to yet figure out the reason they do that.

TN has got a good network of buses both private as well as government owned buses. You will find buses built on chasis from Ashok Leyland, tata motors, Volvo, scania, Mercedes Benz, Eicher motors to name a few. You may want to try night travel by bus. Would be more pleasent. AC buses are almost always a good option. The crowded buses are the city buses which ply mainly inside cities and thus is a local bus. Whenever long distance buses are chosen, then they are the better option and also no one can get in without a booking. Every major cities in India has both type of services catering to different requirements. I take city bus when going to office or some work but take long distance bus when I go for short and long trips. Btw I am from Kolkata.

These drivers are really good. Good idea to take a bus. 4000 rps and 250 Rps. Buses arent bad. I take a bus or train mostly for any trip more than 50 kms. Driving is tiring.

It's definetly more interesting experience taking a bus. Probably more safe safe too because they are less prone to being hit by larger vehicles. Size does matter on the roads in India🙂
