That stinky river you walked by is the famous Mal river of guwahati. Locals wanted to preserve it as a historic river and so no action was taken to clean it up.

Your tombstone would say ''Ben Felt Electric In India!'' I had those issues with the ATMs in India during my six months there. I found that Induslnd and SBI (State Bank of India) were the ones I could usually count on. The others usually said ''Nahin, Nahin'!' kinda like on Mork and Mindy ''Na Nu Na Nu'' but this one meant Hi. 🤣🤣

Don't know about Guwahati but permit is easily found in Tezpur, Assam as their office is there plus Tezpur is very near to Arunachal Pradesh. You also get ILP at the border of bhakukpong place where Arunachal starts if you go without permit although I am not sure if this rule is same for foreign nationals. I go there with my friends to chill during summers since beer is cheaper in Arunachal amidst the natural beauty of the running streams and mountain air

ILP and PAP and RAP are different. ILP is for Indians PAP is for foreigners. Thus it's easier to get ILP. Nagaland, manipur and Mizoram stopped PAP to increase foreign tourism but still have the ILP regime.

This temple signifies female energy. It's dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya, the Goddess of desire, fertility and creation. She's also wife of Lord Shiva. Unlike most temples, this temples doesn't have a deity inside it, instead it's a rock cut formation of female genitalia and womb, which is believed to be Goddess's womb and genitalia that fell on that hill.

In some of the temples and ashrams I visited bringing your shoes in even in your backpack was not allowed and seen as disrespectful. But the rules vary. Almost always there were places to leave your shoes, sometimes free, sometimes maybe 20 rupees.
