Bandung is called Paris Van Java. Because during Colonialism many Europeans lived there and it was an exclusive area for European society at that time. You will feel the European vibes in this city because there are many Dutch heritage buildings in the city center

To answer your curiousity, in 1920 untill the first Japanese troops arrived on Dutch East Indies, the city is well prepared by Dutch East Indies govt to replace Batavia (Jakarta) as the main capitol in the colony, and each building on the city itself is meticulously desgined by Dutch architects which then makes Bandung ,in the most beautiful meaning, got a nickname as "Paris van Java" a.k.a "Kota Kembang/Flower City". So that's why in many parts of Bandung city center area have tons of European vibe on it.

You know all the buildings you saw were designed by the Dutch, including Gedung Sate. The Indonesians renamed all of those building names to Indonesian name after Independence, so the naming doesn’t relate to why it was built. Also Braga is supposed to be pronounced using as the Dutch g. So it sounds like Braha

I lived in North Sulawesi, Manado. A couple years ago i was went to Bandung, i go to Bandung just for traveling bcs they said that so many iconic places in there. Well, its make me so excited. The plan is 3 days in Bandung then move to another city, but Bandung ask me more so 3 days become a week, a week become 2 weeks, 2 weeks become a month then finally become 3 years. Idk but Bandung has something it just makes me fells like home. Even when i back to my place, i mean back home to Manado i just burst in tears bcs i just realized that i already miss Bandung when i step over on the plane. You can visit as well Garut. The weather cold tye same as bandung. Garut is 60 km from Bandung around 1.5 Hour. You will see and enjoy food, spring water from volcanoes mountain , hiking to 5 mountains so that Garut is cool place and many more

When in bandung go to lembang to see mausoleum of Ursone familiy, they are italian family who started and the pioneer of milk producing in year 1800s, and go to alun2 bandung near braga street, there are some historical places in there

You should visit Ambon city (moluccas) . I think ambon is the most dutch-influenced , not only the city, but also the culture and the peoples. Even in its native language you will find dutch words like : maar , voor, paar, etc. Fun fact, when FIFA world cup held maybe 70-80% of its people in the city will support netherland and wear oranje uniform down the streets.

Actually Bandung is Paris van Java mention by Dutch people when they arrive in Bandung not by the Indonesian people. Since then every guest from the dutch and Europe called Bandung is Paris van Java. That was also write in the news paper at that time and became popular until now. Same when Garut said as Swiss van Java, it's said by Charlie Chaplin in early 1920's when he visited Garut. He go to Bandung first and known by the people that Bandung is Paris van Java and then he said Garut is Swiss van Java because more cooler, more cloudy, more green, and more mountains.

Yes, Kopi Kenangan is Indonesian local coffee brand. Begin as a startup and last year get the international investor and became a unicorn. Now they have a big market and plan to reach more store in and outside of Indonesia. And yes, the coffee much better than the Starbuck. I have recommended a place, for you guys when visiting Bandung. It's a park called Maluku Park. The park was built in 1919. In the park, there is a statue of Pastor Henricus Christiaan Verbraak, one of the role models for the Dutch in colonial times. And around that place a lot of old Dutch buildings. Among them is the Jaarbeurs building. Yes! Since the first time in Bandung, there has also been a Jaarbeurs event. There is also the former Van Oorlog Department building, and there is a 100-year-old school. There are also other parks in the area, including a music park, sports park and city hall park. You guys should visiting there.

Try Sundanese food, also there are lots of delicious food and snack in Bandung, such as wedang jahe, batagor, baso tahu, serabi Bandung, Soto Bandung, lumpia basah, lotek, I can probably make a long list… Bandung is cheaper than Jakarta and have a better temperature, basically a weekend getaway place for Jakarta people.

Something magical is happening here in Bandung, the most distinctive feature you can see in Bandung is that the places or buildings are often blend in with nature, you'll see many creeping plants around building, lots of big trees, chilly air, beautiful girls lastly quite religious ppl. Actually Bandung was prepared to become the new capital of Dutch East Indies in the 1930s, but the plan was abandoned due to the Pacific War and subsequent Japanese occupation. This is why the Dutch colonial government built so many modern (for that time) European style structures, hence the European ambience of the city.

I'm going to Bandung in a few days.. unfortunately you guys are not there anymore. As people who was born and raised in Jakarta, I would say it's kinda hard to compare Jakarta and Bandung. Because since the independence of Indonesia, Jakarta was built to become a metropolitan city. That's why you saw so many skyscrapers here in Jakarta. Just like NYC in USA. Oh ya.. one thing that comes out to my mind is.. Mie Naripan. It's the best noodle kiosk in Bandung since forever.. located on Jalan Naripan. Next time you come again to Bandung, you should try it.
