I'm not sure I totally understand your point about the Visa Exempt program. For a retired guy like me who also hates winter and is a beach rat, two months in Thailand in the winter months at home makes perfect sense.

I think his point of visa exemption is that immigration may scrutinize them more due to foreigners trying to use them to stay and work illegally for a few months. For someone like you that wants to vacation for a few months should have no problems.

Major crackdowns? Based on what verifiable evidence of major widespread crackdowns? Yes, the immigration officer has absolute discretion whether you can enter the country. Yet, with the limited number of DTV issues, there are no reports of problems. It will evolve as time goes on.

Embassy's don't issue visas consulates do. Well now one private company issues most visas, consulates contract out.

Embassies do issue visa. Note that you'll never find a consulate and an embassy in the same city. The former is a "light" version of the latter.

I left thailand on the 17th Aug from Bkk to penang come back 18th Aug to Bkk they stopped me and had interview immigration not happy after 10 minutes they let me in but said next time they may not let me back in .

All this stuff came out right when my ED visa is about to end. DTV would be a perfect for me but debating doing 1 or 2 border runs or maybe even a 2nd ed visa until things get more clear.

How much is your ED visa for 1 year? I am also at the end of mine and the DTV is a no-brainer at a 20th of the cost of a sketchy ED visa. Its all really clear and easy to get if you fit the requirements.

not expensive at all. The DTV visa is a multi-entry 5 year visa for 10k baht, that's less than $300 for 5 years. Doesn't get any cheaper.
