My husband has picked up a few Afrikaans words that he uses in general. He loves the words: skelm, lekker, sies man, mooi, lief, and deurmekaar. He is not from SA but loves my country. Why not learn a new language??💝

So funny seeing other people trying desperately to speak Afrikaans, when all the Afrikaans people sit back, relax, and watch others struggle when it’s a piece of cake for us

As a South African, it's so funny seeing foreigners try speak Afrikaans. It's probably one of the easiest languages compared to others.

Afrikaans is the most difficult language I studied in school from (Grade 3) to matric. I still can't understand it let alone speak it.

It’s relatively easy when it comes to grammar and conjugation. Speaking the language is really not that easy. A lot of people bash this language. Ek dink dis een van die mees pragtige tale in die wêreld.

The best motivator is passion. I aquired German in short time, because I loved the sound of it. Ich hast Deutsch gelernen I'm Drei monaten, mit hilf von on line programmen, kein problem. Afrikaans is the world's youngest language and as Afrikaans speaker I love it. Afrikaans is die allerbeste!

Lol bottervlieg is a direct English translation & thus incorrect. You would have to say "skoenlapper" which means the same thing ie.) butterfly 🦋 😎👍

Je parle français, English and American, español de Mexico y Costa Rica tambien...and am attempting Hebrew BUT gotta say tough., Afrikaans is FASCINATING sounds and grammar wise as it is indeed quite user friendly to start with...compared to the Chinese or Arabic even Hungarian languages to start with: each language does have its difficulties and easy parts I guess. Afrikaans (and other well used African languages) is needed to for different manners of thinking/cultural wisdom (for the good points of course) that English cannot replace to start with. Interesting that right now, and not just white people by the way, Afrikaans is still spoken as a first and second language by 17 million people! (as of 2020). The University of South Africa has been told by their supreme court this month that Afrikaans must be offered as a language for studies still! Yeaaassss! At the end of the day, it is a cultural Human right! A plus,

4:16 I know I use bottervlieg almost all the time, but it's not really the word for butterfly, it's just the first thing that comes to mind most of the time and it sounds lekker 😉😁😏 But the real word "skoenlapper" does sound cute too. 🦋🌺

I once worked on a farm, two of my colleagues were arguing about something, the one was Xhosa and the other one was Malawian (Chichewa). They could understand each other a little bit. And it went back and forth, each language sounds quite different. Xhosa guy: speaking Xhosa Malawian guy: speaking Chichewa The argument/debate goes on and gets more heated... Until the Xhosa guy said: " Djy! Moenie kak praat nie!" 😂😂😂😂😂 That was the end of that. I laughed my arse off, if you want the final say or strongly underline what you are saying... you'll be hard pressed to find a lekkerder way to say it.
