Geography lessons in my country of origin were very global. I learned about the entire world. So was history. When I moved to the US, geography lessons became very US-centric, and even then, even while my English was still limited I was always the best student in geography and history classes. My math and science education was also more advanced. The US education system has never been good and it’s now being made worse by whitewashing history, dumbing down and underfunding math and science departments, and killing the arts. Very disturbing. By the way, I’m now in my 40s, and most of the adults I know in the US wouldn’t be able to answer any of those questions either.

In Poland we have a YT channel "Matura to bzdura" (matura exam is nonsense). They quiz young people on the streets of cities on basic school knowledge. Of course they cut out those who knew the answers but for example how many were there who had no idea looking at a map where Poland is 🫣 …. Generation Z

His states question seems a little strange because you/we think in terms of the states of the United States. But if you (point at the USA on a map and) reword the question, you can see how what he says makes sense: 'These are the united states, name two that begin with M?'

Puerto Rico has a blue triangle and red stripes - Cuba has a red triangle and blue stripes. 15:29 Look at your phone and video. You have nothing to be mad at but yourself!

I think the guy actually said “two states of the united states”, but he effed it up during the editing - he cut out the first “states”.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. It’s not about clever or stupid, it’s about the education system. We don’t ban books, we don’t confine our children to the history/geography of our country of origin, and we don’t punish our teachers for broadening our children’s minds. I didn’t want to get political, but you had better hope that Trump and the GOP don’t regain power, because your children will know even less than the current generation. Peace and love to you for opening your mind to other possibilities 😎

You're right about the questionable grammar of that question.

Real question should be:"Can Americans answer simple geography questions"? Because their knowledge is questionable, unlike other people from another countries...🤔🤔

Fun fact, there are a lot of people and resources that call the USA simply the United States. If you google "United States" the first result is "United States, Country in America" (fat disclaimer here, I am not saying everything on google or the internet in general should be taken at face value. Fact checking matters but in this case, it is just common here)

Basically all americans (united states of americans 🤪) call it the united states so he allready knows that. But the question is worded incorrectly leading to the confusion. It's like saying "name a France starting with L"
