Another great video, thanks Jon. I'm a fan of the Meguiar's, however I did get streaks the first few times I tried to follow their directions. I finally figured out a way that really works for me, which isn't how the directions describe. I wash and dry the car, then I use three towels to do the car. The first is a clean, damp microfiber towel that I use to moisten each area before I apply. I then spray one single shot onto a second dry microfiber towel and do one panel, then I buff off with a clean third towel. I repeat that process for every panel; the larger panels like the hood and the roof I usually break into two halves. I haven't had a streak since and it looks great.
@jhunt89142 жыл бұрын
Hi Jon, I'm in complete agreement with the conclusion for each product, each have their massive advantages and very small disadvantages over one another. On your original review of the Meguiars Ceramic Wax, you had your own method of application where you remove 80%-90% of the water from the car first (if possible,) and then you wipe the product in with a damp microfibre, I personally think this is better than the method supplied on the instructions, it works perfectly every time, lasts easily for around 4 months, and I only use about 2-3 trigger pulls per panel, this makes the Meguiars Spray Wax perfect for winter, or when time is cut short. The Autoglym Ceramic Spray Wax is definitely more durable, but I'm in full agreement about it being best used when the car is dry, so I avoid applying it when wet. It makes a brilliant substitute for a paste wax and is far quicker, plus you don't have to spray it down after to remove the streaks (like with the Meguiars) All of these are brilliant products, but in my opinion, it's all about preference of application and how much time you'd like to spend on waxing the car.

As a user of Megs HCW, I can say you were bang on: It's the only product I've ever used where I can really see the change in the paint depth and gloss. In the real world on outside test panels (Scott's videos) it can last circa a year. I agree it isn't very slick but it beads well even on a dirty car! I use it every few months in a slightly off label way: Apply very sparingly on a DAMP MF applicator then IMMEDIATELY buff. If buffed whilst the damp is still present, it's easy, streak free and gives awesome results. I don't use it spray and rinse to top up and never would on the roof as I hate these products getting on the glass. Used as I described, the bottle will last for years so it is incredible value. Despite not being as easy as Seal'n'Shine to apply, I rate it higher because of the fantastic end result. ATM I'm using it on top of a Moonlight base layer but I think best results are just to use it by itself.

After a year or more of temptation, I've decided that you and Pam have swayed me into buying this in the next week or two. I tend to use Turtlewax Hybrid Ceramic Spray Wax or The Last Coat 2. The fact that the cost of TW offering has gone down to £13.00 a bottle has been one reason I've stayed true to their product - plus, the longevity and gloss is amazing! Still, I'm curious to see the jetting effect of the Meg's so I'm going to dip my toe. Cheers, John!

Best video on you tube. Have a new car and have been spending a few weeks on you tube trying to figure out what to used to keep it looking new and protected. So confusing and so many products. Don't need to know if I hit the car with a flame thrower of hand grenade if the wax will hold up. You covered the most important needs I have. Deep shine and water protection. I got the Mcguiars spray hybrid ceramic and it worked great. If I have to apply it every few week who cars it just spray and wash off. I even tried it on my 20 year old car and it is almost as shinny as my new car. I had no problem with streaking, just followed direction on the bottle. The only negative is that for other surfaces like plastic trim and rubber bumpers you need another product. Also I can just use a garden hose and spray nozzle. No pressure washer or foamer all all the other detail tools that the DIY car owner doesn't have but other you tubers are using with products I never heard of or have the equipment to apply. .

I’m quite a fan of AG rapid ceramic spray. Very easy to apply. I might’ve stumbled on a good combo. Last autumn I used SRP then Gyeon wax, which gave good results. I then as part of a maintenance wash sometime later, I topped up with AG rapid ceramic spray. I’ve got no idea if the wax and the spray work well together, but the beading is lasting a good amount of time, especially through winter. Needs some more testing I think.

Another excellent comparison using well-thought-out tests! There's so many products out there, each with their strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I'm currently using the Hybrid Solutions products - Polish and Wax, Ceramic Spray, Wash and Wax, and 3-in-1 Detailer. I find them very easy to apply and effective. The lower half behind the wheels never lasts long in wet weather with any spray coating I've tried to-date. I do love how rejuvenating and effective the HS Wash and Wax is.

I’ve used the Autoglym Ceramic & whilst I was relatively pleased with the results it did take some elbow grease to obtain the desired effect. I have now switched to Glass Coat which is produced by Coating Farm, it’s produced in South Korea & marketed by Slims Detailing (amongst others) I find this is far easier to apply & gives a depth of shine I have not experienced before, it also can be used on plastics / glass/ chrome etc, it’s expensive @ £19.99 for 300mm however, in my own opinion it out does the rest of the field a by a considerable margin, I would be interested to see comparison reviews on the channel - cheers

John, if I recall in one of your recent videos you extolled the virtues of the ceramic & graphenes currently in the market and that you felt all that you had tested were good products. Case in point here! All 3 showed well. I use the TW Seal&Shine, Hybrid Ceramics and FLEX/MAX products extensively - although not exclusively. I have found with ALL of the aforementioned that an initial damp towel wipe followed with a favorite fluffy always provides desired results with NO fuss or muss. In fact, in most cases TW recommends it. A good case to follow directions! To my point - all of these products have a degree of concentration, so as you point out - use sparingly AND perhaps the other products as well as the Turtle Wax would also benefit from a damp towel wipe? Luv your vids! From across the pond... Shine on you crazy diamond!

Megs my favourite also, picked it up cheaply in Costco and a bottle lasted a year. The instructions aren't great, I prefer to wash, blow dry and whilst the panels are slightly damp, lightly spray the product, wipe with a micro fibre towel and you are set. No leftover residue. I don't bother topping up, just use the same method every 2 to 3 months.

Haven't used any dedicated spray sealants/protectants. I've either used spray-on ceramic protectants such as Hydrosilex or hybrid (detail) sprays that are Si02 infused such as Meguiars, CarPro, and most recently the one by Ethos. I guess if you had a newly-polished surface that's been IPA wiped, and you didn't have the money/time/confidence to apply a ceramic...these would be a good alternative. For me, since my car has CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0 + Gliss, I just stick to the hybrid/detail sprays that are primarily for topping every 5-8 washes. About due for a decon wash, though...

Meguires Ceramic for me. If you follow the directions it’s fine, just don’t use too much!

Great review thanks. With the Megs is it acceptable to spray n rinse to top up each wash? Or do you use a QD product for a couple of months?

i get streaks with turtle wax flex wax, no matter how i use it, wet, dry, rinse. Even with a wet cloth its still hard and annoying to buff the streaks out.

Jon i mentioned this in the past, i have a brand new 2 year old bottle of Megs and it went completely dead! I will probably buy a new one and return the old one.
