In this video we cover how to clean your engine bay in seconds for 10p with what I believe to be the worlds strongest water based degreaser. How to clean your engine bay.
Using the ultimate Engine Cleaning Combo IK Foamer + Surfex HD with 10p Chemical Cost
Bin the rattle can degreasers. Surfex HD is as strong as most solvent based cleaners, although its water based so you get proper soaking of grime and dirt as well as the ability to rinse. No need to spend lots of money on products you almost instantly empty when you can buy years worth of concentrate at a fraction of the cost.
In this video I show you what you need and how I clean the engine on a Volkswagen Golf R in minutes for pennies...

@jasonmennie9629
@jasonmennie9629 5 жыл бұрын
@@willosee well i rinsed the bay down at low pressure, using common sense to avoid spraying directly at the alternator and ecu etc, then spray on a apc/degreaser (bh surfex hd in my case) work it in with multiple brushes, then rinse off, dry and then spray on the 303 and shut the bonnet, done. I guess if your engine bay was pretty clean, then a initial wipe down, then apply 303 would probably be enough. But yes 303 is fantastic on the engine bay, spray and leave. Are you on Instagram or use it ? If so search jmennie_detailing_addict, i have put pics on their.

Top tip for the time conscious - once you’ve cleaned and degreased your engine bay, give it a final rinse down and leave it wet. Spray Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care liberally all over your engine bay and close the bonnet. The product will naturally dry to a satin sheen and dress all the components. You can also use a product like CarPro Perl or Meguiars Hyper Dressing. If not, dry the water from your car first like Jon did and spray and wipe your favoured product.
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 5 жыл бұрын
can you spray and leave PERL snake?
@SolidestSnake
@SolidestSnake 5 жыл бұрын
Forensic Detailing Channel I’ll be honest I’m not 100% sure but it is water based so I assume it will disperse without issue. There’s a few videos online of people spraying it everywhere and then lightly brushing/wiping the product in to the surfaces and details, so maybe it does need a little work. I do know Autoglym VRC you can spray and leave (done it many times to good effect) and Megs Hyper Dressing you can I’ve seen it done on Obsessed Garage.

IMO once properly washed and dressed with something like CarPro PERL, the cleaning process of the engine bay becomes essentially just wiping down everything with a damp towel, because dirt and even moderate amounts of oil and grime will have no chance bonding to the surface of anything in there. And PERL lasts for more than a year in the engine bay, so, you don't even have to reapply that, unless you want the really intense freshly cleaned look. So, no regular engine bay washes for me, not even with just foam. Of course if you have oil or coolant squirting all around, a wipe just won't cut it anymore and PERL won't last that long either - but then you've far more serious problems with your engine than keeping it looking nice.

@Andrea Yes, because there it has contact with a lot of flowing water. Same thing with plastic trim on the outside of the car. No point in dressing with PERL, because it only lasts a week. However, in the engine bay there's no flowing water, and because of that it lasts a lot longer. It also tolerates the engine heat very well. Of course it will still lose most of the sheen after a few weeks, but the repellency effect will stay a lot longer. And with the wipe you can also partially restore the sheen, as you will be removing the thin layer of dust that's now covering it.

I got the IK sprayer you recommend but I noticed that it is not meant for alkaline fluids and Surfex HD is a strong alkaline (ph14) Has your sprayer held up OK with Surfex HD in it?

As others have said I have always stayed away from cleaning that area. What id like to know is how the foam is rinsed off? I don't have a pressure washer.

Fold a microfibre to the size of the area you want to protect and cover up that area. Then you can spray around the whole bay and not have any drips into sensitive areas. Take it off at the end. It’ll be damp, but should have nothing dripping down where you don’t want it to.

I do a similar process every 6 months or so using MG Super Degreaser diluted 1:4, then dress it with AG vinyl and rubber care. Rinsing after cleaning and wiping with MF not always needed before dressing, depends on level of dirt. All metal/painted areas get a coat of Sonax BSD. After that, I just brush off dust and wipe away dirt every 2-3 weeks. It takes 5 minutes. Job done. Always get compliments when car goes in for a service or to have the oil changed. It's my daily driver, 67 plate SUV.

did a bay last weekend and started using "jaffa clean" from AB . was not overwhelmed with it so switched to some koch GS that i already had mixed at roughly 8-10:1 and it did a far better job, imo. i do have surfex hd but didnt choose that as the GS was already mixed in a sprayer. both really good apc's but i have found that GS needs to be mixed ever so slightly stronger than surfex. the AB product also "protects" so maybe that explains my perceived lesser cleaning power, and this is probably more suited to a engine bay maintenance wash rather than the grimey job i had to do.

If you’re going to use water, avoid going near the air intake, although they are tolerable, you drive in the rain don’t you? And make sure you leave it running during the water cycle and after to dry a little bit. Not necessarily fully dry but for the heat of the engine to rid most of the moisture
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 5 жыл бұрын
@@robjones721 I would not have the engine running while cleaning it personally. I know lots of things are up for debait but a lot of intakes on cars are not always perfectly sealed, they are taken off and put back on and lots of times they can be loose or have cracks in the intake arm elbows and stuff.. you got that engine running when your putting water there its asking for trouble. like I say just in my opinion.

purchased surfex hd from your recommendation and so far it has worked really well on the alloys, wheel arches and side panels with traffic film. however having seen how clean your engine bay was keen to give it a go though nervous about spraying surfex hd and then rinsing. is it safe or would you advise to spay onto a detail brush and then wipe off with a MF cloth?

as a surfactant this is best rinsed away mate. and then dry with air if you have it.
