Again we are reminded why Foresty's cinematic presentation looks so professional. Looks like National Geographic. I really believe if they were shown a good cross sample of his adventurs with Roco along, Foresty would be the next Incredible Dr. Pole. His discipline to be ready to modify his plans on the fly shows wisdom. Slogging through pouring rain and cold temps is asking for trouble. There is always another day to try it. Still looks like he is eating better than i do. That chicken looked good. I love the scene of him picking blueberries. We had a cabin in Ontario on Red Deer Lake, not real far from Sudbury. We would go picking them and we would come back with so much. I think Foresty would be interested in the 'blueberry grunt' my mom and grandma would make. Basically its a blob of dough and a layer of berries that would soak through. Like an upside cake. When you think of it, few and simple ingredients make sence. You dont want to bring your kitchen to the cabin. We would eat so much you would finally grunt and give up. I could get my moms directions for it if he ever wanted to try making this one pot treasure. Will he start moving south soon?

I spent a summer a few years ago working on the Tongass National Forest doing surveys for northern goshawk nests. This required my field partner and I to spend days in the field, often in very rainy weather. I tried getting by with a Columbia brand rain suit, but sometimes, in times of prolonged rainfall, all of my clothes got wet, including my underwear - so I know how you felt that day. My supervisor warned us to always carry a spare set of dry clothing inside a plastic bag, because he was worried that we could potentially get hypothermia out there and die. Other employees who had more experience working in that environment told me that I needed to purchase a Helly Hansen brand rainsuit. I looked at them at the local outdoor store, but the expensive price dissuaded me (since I was only going to be there for about four months). Maybe Helly Hansen would be a good brand of rain gear for you to look into.

It's good for people to see that real deep woods adventures can sometimes come up against something that makes the smart decision to turn around. I don't mind rain to an extent, but if it was too much for Rocko then that becomes the driving factor. As for ponchos, try a US military style poncho/shelter half. They're big enough to keep your legs dry, and put on over most packs. Plus with the shelter features you can even hunker down overnight in the rain inside it. Keep up the good work and keep your weather eye out.
