This song....Yixing is literally the sweetest human being. He really went out of his way to show all the fans, that he is keeping his Promise, and is not abandoning his boys. I mean, he saved these phone conversations and added them to the recording! If that doesn't show how devoted he is and how close they all still are, I don't know what will. I didn't honestly think he was going to stay on with SM when he started his own entertainment company, but I don't think he has a bad relationship with SM at all, and I am pretty sure they will work something out. Also, no one knows what EXO is going to do going forward, after military, when it comes time for contract renewal...But this is a song of reassurance, of thanks, of appreciation for his 8 brothers. Actually, the "September wine" , I believe, he is refering to a popular mandarin folksong called "九月九的酒" (literal trans: The wine of "September 9th). kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaPVpJ1qid-cbKs That song talks about a person who is homesick and has been away from family and friends while drinking the wine on 9th of September of lunar calendar ( i suspect that day is supposed to be a cultural festivity where family and friends should gather). I'd say every single lyric Lay wrote in this song is very intentional - i.e. the superpowers of exo members in the first verse and all his feelings in the 2nd verse. honestly i think there are some better lyric videos that translate yixings lyrics more honestly to his message (yixing uploaded an official one) but yeah this song is beautiful. to me it comes off as bittersweet. it is reminiscent of the past and promising of the future; yixing gave his youth to SM and EXO and now a certain chapter of his life is coming to a close but thats not all bad. as yixing said, he will always be Lay when EXO needs him. also i love how he used all of their powers at the beginning to describe the alcohol (jiu in mandarin, which can also mean nine). i also believe september is used because it is the 9th month

The title intrigues me. I've only just started learning Mandarin, so I know _nothing_ yet... almost. I don't recognise the character 酒 in the title, but according to Google Translate it comes out as "liquor". Which makes sense because of the references to making a toast. But the same _word, Jiǔ,_ even using the same _inflection,_ also means "nine" (九) (one of the few words I _do_ know so far 😜), which could reference the nine fighting stars. Whether it's deliberate or not, that's pretty clever... Honestly, I'm not even an EXO-L, but this is a heck of a song.
