There are two versions of Mel's PAYBACK, and both are worth watching. The orig Theatrical Release is "Mel's" while the Director's Cut is NOT - it was the original version and Mel objected to that version, so he had it re-written, re-film and released as The Theatrical version. Mel Gibson was born in New York but moved to Australia when he was 12. Alot of people have thrown him under the bus for his words and some actions. My personal opinion is that he didn't murder or rape anyone. Nobody's perfect and most people can be redeemed. I still enjoy his work.
@unropednope46449 ай бұрын
Oh ok, so as long as someone hasnt commited any violent crimes, its ok in your eyes if they are a rampant right wing antisemite, bigot and homophobe? How about beating their ex girlfriend? That ok? Sorry but your views are nuts. There's a reason Gibson was blacklisted for ten years and it's because of everything I listed.

He seems to condone a lot of murders of Jews however. 😮

Mel: "won $10G on Jeopardy, and his Dad used that $ to move their family to Australia", so how young a kid could he have been? Is there a Jeopardy Junior?
@leslieoneal44649 ай бұрын
Yes. There is a collegiate version as well as a kids' version. Also, I'm thinking there might be a teens' version.👍 I have no idea what version or when he won, but it's entirely possible that the story is true.

NUMEROUS time i have suggested this movie on several reators channels. FINALLY! ISo glad you were the first, well i think you are. This gem flies 'under the radar' for some reason which i do not understand. PS: An equally special Mel Gibson movie that he starred in as well as Mel's Directorial debut is 'Man Withou a Face". Suggest putting on your future watch list.

Another great Mel Gibson movie is “the man without a face“. A great drama! And another Elijah Wood movie that will blow your mind when it comes to his acting abilities at such a young age is “radio flyer“. It also has the boy from Jurassic Park in it. They are both phenomenal!!! I’ve got to say… your Patreon’s are the absolute best! There are so many movies they recommend that no one is reacting to and that is what makes your channel so unique. These are great movies that would just be lost to time and technology. But you guys are keeping them going! Keep doing what you’re doing! Much love! 💙💙💙

This is the best movie and a great score by Jerry Goldsmith.

Goldsmith . . . The Master

He's the best, totally underrated. I'll take him ANY DAY over John Williams.
@doogboh9 ай бұрын
@tictocmelody9190 : More versatile, creative, and prolific -- and at least every bit as compositionally gifted. Plus -- and most important -- a much smarter and more thoughtful *dramatist*, whose scores contained a thematic synergy that Williams scores rarely do. Everything is related, integrated. Not some patchwork quilt of different, sophomoric "cat calls" reinforcing what's already obvious. ("Hey, it's Princess Leia -- play Princess Leia music!") Jerry was the consummate musical storyteller; as FOREVER YOUNG illustrates, a Jerry Goldsmith score would, in Director Steve Miner's words, " take you on a journey." Indeed -- and a richly rewarding one at that.
@TTM96919 ай бұрын
@@doogboh Wow, brilliantly encapsulated, bro. "More versatile" is how you started it and you can say that again. And hey, I love the Close Encounters score, I can't take that away from ole Johnny, brilliant, beautiful work......and Jaws before it, couldn't imagine a better score......but other than that, he's imitation Mahler. I totally agree about "cue the theme music"! Goldsmith is totally in my shortlist of greatest film composers. I love Herrmann, I love Nino Rota, especially his Fellini scores, and Goldsmith is the next name I always cite.
@doogboh9 ай бұрын
@tictocmelody9190 : You mentioned Herrmann -- he's just about the only scorer, at least historically, who I think was even in Jerry's league. I too love the CLOSE ENCOUNTERS score. Very Goldsmithian/Herrmannesque in a number of ways (e.g., thematically focused). STAR WARS was the beginning of the end for Williams. As a one-off it made for an amusing Golden Age homage -- but then JW basically decided to make a career out of regressive scoring, disregarding the sensible advancements that a Herrmann and a Goldsmith produced.

If I am thinking of the same song Cassie was thinking of, that song, "Who wants to live forever", is by Queen and was also featured in 1 of my all-time favorite movies, Highlander. Whenever I hear the words, "Forever Young", I always think of Rod Stewart's song of the same name, which I honestly never knew until just a few years back was actually a remake of an older song. I still remember when I saw this movie back many years ago on VHS about the same time I also saw The Man Without a Face, another movie I think you would both love, but in a different way. I remember both movies made me cry. I forget the reason why, but I never got to see either those movies in theaters when they came out. One thing I appreciated about this movie is how when Gibson's character first woke up, he's freezing and can barely get the words out in his phone call, as opposed to many other sci-fi movies & tv shows where the main lead is thawed out years later, they seem to immediately wake up & adjust quickly to the temperature.

🍿🎥🫶It’s ridiculous how much y’all are gonna love this movie on a rainy day. For all the obvious romcom reasons, sure, but a baby Elija Wood (amongst other stellar casting choices that you’ll recognize quickly). Beautiful vintage aircraft & a charming script… ENJOY!!

I have a story from my first job today that ties directly into your last reaction video. I'm assuming you'll do episodes 3 & 4 fairly soon. The world is a unique place and the timing was pretty amazing since you just posted that vid a day or two ago. I had a customer today that was one of the last 4 remaining guys from the 100th Bomber Squadron. I'll post the full story from this morning when you do your next episode on Masters Of The Air.

Mel Gibson did not have a Scottish accent in Braveheart, just a crappy attempt. He was born in Peekskill, New York. His parents moved to Sydney Australia when he was 12. The closest roll he had that he could've had an Australian accent would be Mad Max, The Road Warrior, & Gallipoli.
@TTM96919 ай бұрын
And "The Year Of Living Dangerously", which is the one she'd probably like the most. (It's more of a grown-up movie, though, it's not for people with the tastes of an eleven year old boy. But that's the movie that put Gibson on the map as a serious actor (which lasted about ten minutes, lol). And gasp! It has a woman in it! lol Sigourney Weaver, fantastic performance from her. Linda Hunt got the Oscar for it (for playing a male character, no less). I do love Gallipoli, but I've never been so bored in my life than being 13 or whatever it was, sitting in a movie theatre watching dopey Mad Max. What a vapid decade the 80s were, lol. (We've never left it!)
