Awesome tutorial. The Expand option was muted out, so I selected Expand Appearance and that did the trick for shape not being skewed. After that, I was able to select the Expand option. A dialog box didn't show up though. I had to edit the setting in the top toolbar to get the colors to be uniform.

Hey Dansky, do you know how to offset to the One Side by distance? For example, I want to add 5 more pixels only to the right side of the rectangle, not to the whole shape.

Hey there! Draw a circle, use the Scissor Tool to make 2 cuts along the path (where the ends of the letter C are), use the path offset trick demonstrated in the video, and then if you want to remove the 'caps' on the ends of the letter, use the Direct Selection Tool to select the end paths and delete 🙂

Every time I make an offset path it keeps the same color as the original, and when I change it the offset path color changes with it......Do I need to create a new layer for this step?

Whats the difference between going object - path offset instead of effect - path - offset?

Effects can be added and stacked on objects in Illustrator (eg. text) and enable them to stay editable. For me personally, I use the 'Object' menu for most of the things that I create in Illustrator.

Thanks for your tutorial where everything is consistent. However, when I set the offset path to minus 20 with round, the first one works fine but subsequent ones result in square corners even though the box shows round with zero mitre. I also tried offsetting the first rectangle with minus 40 and round but it also comes out with square corners. I am using the latest upgrade of Illustrator CC. Any clues to this would be appreciated.

Same with me. I think the problem is that you click on the original square instead of clicking on the last offset square. Other thing I have noticed, when you offset a square with round corners, the round corners of the new square have different proportions and don't look good, anyway since each new offset path has its small buttons to adjust the roundness of corners, I have adjusted them manually. It just takes seconds.

Thank you. This was very helpful. I have one question. I have cc 2018 and it seems to be impossible to toggle off snap to pixel grid. I have tried everyting. I can not choose my line alingment wich only offers from center alingnment. The obtion is not offered in the transform panel or any other like countless tutorials say. I can get a toggle button when I choose essential classic as my enviroment, but that does not change anything. Have you any suggestions on how to solve this? Does this depend on how you choose your new document in the beginning? A short tutorial on this would probably make a lot of people happy.
