@@fenrir_Lokison9 I mean, this is also old. I don't know that much about Forged in Fire, but I think I remember reading that the format was a bit weird and not always standardized in the first few seasons. I really want them to do a bronze weapon challenge... all these steel blades are really cool but you cannot cheap-out on bronze.. either you do it right or you don't. Would also have to mix their own tin and copper as part of it... then forge or cast it (most likely cast it).. would require different talents all together and would make for a neat challenge imo. You can also vary the amount of tin leading to harder edges with high-tin concentrates and lower tin cores for more durability. Also, don't they typically do three tests? I am guessing there was an issue with the third and they didn't broadcast it?
@kaeljadondavis27793 жыл бұрын
As much as I'd like to see a bronze forged in fire season, virtually every blacksmithing resource I've seen spits on sword casting. They say it makes a super brittle blade compared to shaping metal from the get-go. Is casting historically accurate?
@adam3463 жыл бұрын
@@kaeljadondavis2779 casting was the only proper way to do bronze and tempering was not really done. Historically I think bronze was only casted.. maybe they made a solid lump of bronze in the rough shape of the sword and worked it from there but I do know the hardness was not dealt with through heat treating but the chemical composition. The amount of tin in the bronze actually determined the hardness (and therefore edge retention, brittleness ect...) of the weapon and had the edges hammered, sharpened ect... into place. I just think that it would require an entirely different skill-set, like molding, working with molten metal + chemistry and then the typical smith skills of shaping, sharpening and finishing a weapon. As for effectiveness, they were used until early high-carbon steel became common since iron would bend, rust and be kinda shabby all-around. Where as a proper bronze sword could hold the edge of a high-carbon steel blade but required more sharpening to retain it.
