I've been cherry picking the episodes I watch and intend to check to see if some of my top favorite smiths are available to make a custom weapon. The guy that checked his butterfly swords blades with his own destruction test is in my new top 3.

I knew he would win. The fact he tested his edges properly and then reground them so they would be less prone to damage spoke volumes about his work ethic. Then the way he actually made them so they could lie flat against each and didn't sharpen the whole length, to ensure they were in the style of traditional knives, clinched his win.
@fromo75853 жыл бұрын
True he did play it Smart most people knew they did something wrong but Still thought its going to be alright and then end up loosing of the same reasons they thought was gonna be alrith
@nobodyimportant693 жыл бұрын
Absolutely right!!! Proper testing and research on the blades you màke can be the difference maker. Shane truly deserved to win this one. Man I feel bad for Andy, that slice to the thumb looks bad, hope he heals up and comes back for another round.
@Cervando3 жыл бұрын
@@nobodyimportant69 It did indeed look sore. He did well and on another day he could have won. He didn't make the all too common mistake of making the weapon far too heavy and even included a fuller.

man that was close for me at least. but with the purpose of being butterfly swords and not just big knives, I agree with the judges' decision. as a big knife I would maybe have to go with the other ones tho

If your gonna be on forged an fire it's always the same things weight, handle and make sure to build them how they are supposed to be made you can still add your thing but make the weapon how it should be. I never get alot of these contenders they know what the judges like light fast blades with comfortable handle.
@evandugas78883 жыл бұрын
So long as it's strong light blades with comfortable handles are normally the best weapons. If they make it to fragile then that's why the strength test.

i wonder if two blades could be so close it would come down to appearance
@NightmareKing02033 жыл бұрын
actually on multiple occasions the winner was decided solely based on the appearance and aesthetics. Take the panabas episode where they brought back fan favorites for example. the winner was decided based on the fact that one had some fancy file work and a nice looking handle.
@233Deadman2 жыл бұрын
I think i remember once it came down to some fine details that were partly appearance, but also historical accuracy.

The thing that gets me consistently about these blade smiths is if they watched the show, they'd know there's a 95% chance the blade you'll be making is over 30"...so if you dont have a quench tank or forge suitable to build a 30+" blade perhaps make preparations BEFORE the show.
@walden6272 Жыл бұрын
Good point. Also they should never make a blade too heavy. I see so many of them bring in a heavy weapon and thinking they have a shot of winning with it. Unless their competitor's weapon breaks, they going to lose. I would make it priority that the weapon is light and strong
