Ben Abbot is some kind of fantasy smith that crafts legendary weapons for the hero.
@princebautista2 жыл бұрын
At this point, the only way Ben will lose is if he makes a mistake, that's just how good he is. Episode feels kinda off, don't know if it's the editing.
@ZetsueiTV2 жыл бұрын
Rather than him making a mistake, a smith has to rise to his level and surpass it. Thus why its a challenge. Watching this episode if I was a judge I would've said Ben lost in the tests. Aesthetically his sword was better but his edge didn't seem that sharp.
@Evilbob15552 жыл бұрын
@@ZetsueiTV Ben's sword didn't do as well but it did welll enough to rival the other blade. The not-Ben smith put a very good edge on it, but even looking at the sword you can predict that his sword would be unbalanced. As Dave said, the unabalanced blade is hard to recover and wants to keep its momentum going which gives it those deeper cuts at the cost of weildability.
@IrishClone2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Ben is extremely good at what he does. As for the editing, they typically cut a lot out for the KZbin videos. I'm sure the actual episode feels much more natural because they left more of the work in the show
@jpnmystic52082 жыл бұрын
try challenge him NOT making a sword catalogue weapon imo :p
@matthewschneider47582 жыл бұрын
The Metal-Work and overall blade performance was equal. Nicholas appeared to have a slightly better cutting edge, but when it came down to it both blades will Kill, Cut, and are Durable. Therefore, in battle if two blades will do the same job, but one feels MUCH better in the hand then thats going to be the blade you choose to go into battle with. Weight, Balance, Finger Grooves, these all play into functional performance of a blade. Ben's blade has a more fluid motion, allowing for better control and recovery. Ben is definitely the GOAT, but Nicholas was SO CLOSE to winning if he had not forgotten what every competitor seems to forget, the Handle is just a critical as the blade itself!
@northernvulk57272 жыл бұрын
Sadly it was the second part of the blade that messed him up at the forge, he's normally pretty good with the handles as far as I can tell, he lost out on time.
@marshallcecil44742 жыл бұрын
This explains so many frustrations I have. I thought Nicholas had the better weapon, but with what you've said, I can understand as to why Ben won and I thank you for elaborating

For those of you saying it's rigged the judges HAVE lost before. It's not rigged these guys are just masters.
@romxxii2 жыл бұрын
I blame the video editing, they're cutting down 20-minute TV segments (from a 40-minute episode) down to 10 minutes, and a lot gets lost in the edit. They remove the part where judges pre-test weapon handling, showing that weapon weight _is_ a major judging criteria. This video also doesn't show majority of Ben's construction, whereas the full episode shows him starting from stacking his billet down to the final finish. The result: plenty of people whose only exposure to FIF are these very abridged videos.

@misaelvillalba86712 жыл бұрын
@@roryireland3734 yes, but the main issue was balance. The often give far more important to the balance than the performance of the blade. Which is very logical, if you have an awesome blade but hard to wield then it won't be very useful.

This show is a joke. The other guy clearly won. Ben's blade could barely even slice through the tatami mats and barely even when through the pig when Doug stabbed it. The producers told the judges which blade was Ben's, and they handed him the "victory" solely because he's a fellow judge.
@misaelvillalba86712 жыл бұрын
@@smallbarnyardanimal4719 I gotta completely disagree with u dude. Idk if u ever have seen the show previously but both balance and weight have always been crucial to determine a winner. Many times a blade that slices, chopps or slices better loses due to it's harder to wield and recover than the other blade. This match was pretty even, but if you gotta decide between the two blade you'll go to the more maneuver blade. After all, if a blade is an awesome cutter but it's hard to control it isn't fully functional, don't u think?
@clorkmagnus2 жыл бұрын
@@smallbarnyardanimal4719 you don't seem to understand a heavy forward sword always perform slightly better at slashing forward motion plus when stabbing Ben sword did stab all the way through, Doug can just happen to stab a bone on the first time, no blade can stab through bone without a lot of force and Dough obviously only tried to stab very slightly for both sword. The first sword lack counter balance which means you are slow down using it and it can fly out of your hands after some times while Ben balance is better which means it has better handling => better defensive and offensive option when you swing it.

@nfbalkanproduction65512 жыл бұрын
The judges are unrealistic, Ben's sword 2 did not cut these tatami mats to the end, and he cut the pigs worse. The other competitor is stolen, if the sword is not sharp, it is not good, if it is not balanced, it is not that important. Looking at history, it is important that he kills and is sharp.
