That's a bit exaggerated imo, he did a lot of work on that blade. I do however think Rich should have won. Hook sword should be (first and foremost) light. You don't want such weapons (which is ridiculously sharp on every inch and every corner) to be heavy. You need it to be light and fast, and Dave's sword seemed uncomfortable to wield. I'm not an expert though, the judges are. So I'm sure they had they own reasons for such decision.

a blunter blade can be sharpened and even then it still did damage but a warp is a much worse type of damage than dulling or rolling as it effects every aspect of the blade and is harder to fix

@@monsieurlee1343 warping is more dependent on the type of steel and the thickness of the plad compared to the edge and the type of grind plus blades dont need to be that sharp just sharp enough to deal damage witch his did to a degree. The hook sword is more of a disabling weapon and wasn't used against armour. Plus doesn't matter how sharp you blade is if it is sideways on the first parry

@@yeetman1344 every blade has to be sharp as possible to cut the best. And you do not hit against the armor directly, you aim for gaps. You may be baffle by this, but the better the armor got, the finer and frailer the blades got. Till they got needle fine. To stab into gaps between armor plates. Agains armor directly, you use maces and warhammers with a pike side. This is not holywood nor a computer game...

Not necessarily true. First guy's blade was far more damaged. Sharpening is second to safety, and a bending blade isnt safe. Also you can just sharpen the blade later.

One of the few scenarios where I feel the decision was absolutely incorrect. We had a sharp, light sword that took minor edge damage and a slight bend (that dave himself said was minimal) vs a heavy, blunt sword that took minor edge damage, and the latter won. Plus I'm pretty sure the guy didn't even heat treat right, the metal barely looked like it was heated at all. I'm convinced that if they did the strength test against something solid instead of terracotta, it would have taken serious damage.

hook swords are meant to be very light swords, dual wielded, with fast and agile motions, a heavier blade defeats the purpose of them, fast swords that can quickly disarm or disable an opponent with minimal effort

you have got to be kidding me right? the judges, who always criticize weights of weapons, chose a much heavier blade that is barely sharp over one that was razor sharp just because it bent slightly during the strength test? those were tough targets, and technically both blades bent. Rich was the winner, no debate. he made the better blade.

the hook swords are also meant to be light, there exclusively dual wielded and require fast agile movements, a heavier blade would make them harder to swing in there intended way edit: i spent 10 years mastering the hook sword, along with a few other exotic blades, and the hook swords are 100% meant to be light and nimble, flexible but with enough spring in them that you can wobble the blade when you shake it from side to side, that is the ideal blade for this weapon

That's strange. It's the first result I see that I'm skeptical of. With that many blades on a weapon, maneuverability and recovery seem important. Specially when wielding two and hooking them. I don't recall a heavy blade, that defeats the purpose of the weapon itself, ever trumping a slightly bending blade.

I really thought Rich had this. David's sword didn't cut as well and was heavy. A sword that can't cut is not a good sword, and a hook sword is supposed to be light. It smashed through the Terakota because of the added weight, I think.

Man as this being one of my favorite weapons ever, the decision is definitely not right. Like even Doug said it was concerning how heavy it is. with a weapon that is strictly one handed... I would thing that that could be a potential safety concern with the blade on the bottom pointing back at you. The whole point of the sword is to have full control of it and the first guy made a beautiful one.
