Can you believe all the time I spent in Thailand; I never ate at Five Star Chicken? I’ve walked past Five Star Chicken several times, but it never dawned on me to try it.

Five stars in Thai, it’s “ไก่ย่าง 5 ดาว” which translates to 5 stars BBQ chicken. They sell all kind of chicken dishes, but the most famous for is smokey straw chicken breast.

Yes, it can be hit and miss at the Five Star Chicken restaurants. This place was really busy and popular. They were running through the chicken pretty fast.

Yes, I really like 5 Star Chicken. I have only been once They are at almost every gas station rest stop in Thailand. My tour bus stopped at one on the way to Silver Lake Vineyards/ Winery.

Finally, a westerner/foreign​er that has found​ the​ secret of commercialized Thai fastfood. Most of the foreign youtubers I've watched usually go straight to the traditional street food. Thanks for giving a testimony to the great taste of this chicken recipes. They are my favorite as well. However, you should​ also try the Hadyai Fried​ Chicken as well. These are sold via street carts, almost exclusively. You might LOVE them as well. BTW, I just subscribed.

@@grifsfoodandtravel The truth​ is, with​ Kai Tod Hadyai, it has become​ a hit and miss affair in every province of the country, other than in Songkhla, the​ province where​ Hadyai City is located. Many people​ in Thailand​ like the recipe, and they do buy it any chance they get. Because the recipe is so loved, other provinces​ immitate this recipe, but they end up using their​ own​ recipe. They make it look like​ it, but taste usually​ sweet, not a perfect combination​ of slightly sweet, more salty, and aromatic with herbs, tge way southern​ers make it. Kai Tod Hadyai also comes with their one and only fried onions as well. The​ onions​ are lightly battered. In all provinces in deep south, you can put your bet down that if you see a fried chicken stand/cart, it's​ the original thing. In Bangkok, you need to be in markets of predominantly Muslim (Muslim Thais are almost always from deep south), something like the Minburi Province, not far. Actually, Minburi​ is just at the far end of Rama Intra Road, going east. A little​ closer, right in the​ Wang Thong Lang Area of Bangkok, BTS, the Ladprao Line, I think it's​ the Blue Line, going east. Get off near Big-C (this is near Artnarong-Ekamai Expressway). There are markets in that area. Usually street markets are active during evening​ time. If you don't​ find it here, go straight to Ramkamhaeng Road, only 1-2 km away from Ladprao Road. You can take a motorcycle​ taxi through a little​ soi connecting tge two roads. The area I'm referring​ to on Ramkamhaeng Road is right in front of the Ramkamhaeng University. Tons of street venders, and many many are southerners. Many many university​ students eating​ around​ there and living around​ there are also from deep south. Have a fun time exploring!!!

This chicken was FIRE! I would recommend you try if you are in Thailand. As for the weight, I'm like a yo-yo. Constantly dieting. 😂.

Both sauce packets are Thai sweet chili sauces but the smaller packet (the first one you try) is the sweeter version while the larger packet is the original version. That’s the only difference.
