They are literally my favorite little flower. I never had success direct sowing them … and then I moved into a place where they were growing alongside my drive so I transplanted them to my English garden along the winding path and they simply took off!!! I have finally determined to grow some in pots from seed, so wish me luck!!! New subscriber!!! 🌸

I never had success germinating until I did it in wet paper towel in a baggie. Seeds sprouted in 3 days then I transferred to a larger flat with 1/4 inch soil over top. Now I have enough to fill a huge area , lol !

I have 10 different packs of flowers and vines and i want to start them soon so i could give my brothers and nephew and nieces to give for her birthday in june. I will start them in small peet pot size pots and transplant later to garden beds ,raised beds , and hanging pots for some vines. She has a walkway arch that I could build some beds around to make the vines grow up on the arch.

Hi Kitty thank you for the brilliant video. So I have annuals in big pots on the patio. So can I just check I am best to pull them out and then divide them, put them back into a new pot with fresh compost and keep them in the sunshine, read to have them for next spring? I don't have a greenhouse or cold frame you see. Thanks Natalie
@balconiagarden
@balconiagarden 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Natalie, providing your forget me nots are perennials you can dig them up and divide them, that should reinvigorate the clumps and as a result they should flower better next season. If you have annual forget me nots you could actually just let the flowers go to seed and allow the seeds to sprinkle themselves in the big pots and you should have a show next year. Its ok if you don't have a greenhouse or coldframe, you can either bring them inside or just pop them in a sheltered area in your growing space. Forget me nots are tough! I always recommend giving different methods a go to see what works for you in your garden and climate so if you're not sure if you have annuals or perennials maybe try both methods! Good luck and let me know how it goes! 🙂💚

Hi Jeff, shame the seeds didn't work out. Could be the soil or the quality of the seeds. Sometimes the seeds that are sold contain dud or old seeds with lower viability which could explain why they didn't grow well.

@balconiagarden
@balconiagarden 3 жыл бұрын
As they cool-loving plants native to temperate climates you might struggle a bit to grow them in a tropical climate! I would suggest planting them in the shade and keep them regularly watered. Popular annual varieties are Blue Ball and White Ball, also Indigo Compacta although that's a biennial. If you're planting them in pots for inside keep them in a cool spot in your home with nice moist soil. Good luck 👍💓

Hi, I’ve been growing mine from seeds and they’ve been doing very well up until recently. They’re still very young and are only an inch tall, but the leaves have been browning entirely at a rapid pace and dying 😥 I’m not sure what is wrong as I water them and keep the soil moist very frequently and always let it drain.
@balconiagarden
@balconiagarden 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gabrielle, if the seeds are biennials or perennials chances are this is part of their normal growth cycle where they almost always die back in winter and then regrow in spring. As long as they have a healthy root system they should be OK!

I just planted forget me not seeds in a pot and they have germinated. However there is no where on the seed packet that states if they are an annual or perennial form of the plant. Is there any way I can tell what I have by the look of the plant? Thanks!
@balconiagarden
@balconiagarden 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Linda, annual forget me nots will grow leaves, produce flowers and set seed on one growing season. If you're noticing your forget me nots aren't producing flowers you've probably got either a biennial or perennial variety. It requires a bit of patience to see the flowers but it will be well worth it! Hope that helps :)

This was three months ago, but is there anything special I have to do when my Forget-Me-Nots get the two first little leaves? And what should I be expecting after the first pair of leaves? Sadly I can’t find a time-lapse of Forget-Me-Nots so I’m not sure what to expect!
@balconiagarden
@balconiagarden 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kara, do you mean the seed leaves/ cotyledons? The first little leaves will remain on the plant until it produces its first true leaves where it can then start photosynthesising and producing energy to grow. Eventually the first little leaves will fall off so don't worry if they shrivel up. From there the plant should continue to produce leaves and bulk up in size. For annual forget me nots you should eventually see flowers during the same growing season, for biennial and perennial varieties there is also a chance you'll see flowers in the first year but they would be expected to flower in the second growing season and onwards so don't worry if no flowers come. Hope that helps 🙂

@balconiagarden
@balconiagarden 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue, it sounds like the plants didn't have enough light and became elongated which makes them weak and less likely to grow. If they were young enough they might have also fallen victim to damping off which is a fungus that causes seedlings to collapse. I would start again. Good luck 👍

@balconiagarden
@balconiagarden Жыл бұрын
Hi Michelle, I think it will have to be a waiting game to find out, annuals will grow, flower and set seed in one year, biennials the same cycle in two years and if they keep coming back after that then you have perennials ☺️

@balconiagarden
@balconiagarden Жыл бұрын
Hi Sans, do you know what type of forget me nots you have sown? They will have different requirements depending on the type. This article explains the differences well www.masterclass.com/articles/forget-me-not-flower-planting-guide Don't worry about the leaves, just keep giving them enough light, warmth and moisture during their fragile seedling stage. Remember depending on the variety they will either bloom this year or in the next season. It's hard to diagnose the problem without knowing your growing set up but the reasons could be many as the seedling stage is fraught with challenges 😂 they could be etiolated which means they're not getting enough light and so they elongate their stems to reach the light and in doing that they weaken their stems which end in them toppling. If so give them more light! Preferably from above. Another reason they're not upright could be damping off, a fungus that kills seedlings and they just collapse. Are they getting enough water too? Give them time and they should right themselves so 🤩

@balconiagarden
@balconiagarden 5 ай бұрын
Hello Pratiksha, forget me nots are generally spring to early summer plants in temperate climates so they prefer temps between 15 to 25°C. I believe there are different forget me not cultivars and some can tolerate temps up to 30C so I recommend doing a bit of research and seeing what plants are available where you live. I always recommend trying things out, you might be surprised how well the plants do!
