@@pianopeter maybe a video about how Coltrane uses pentatonics would be a cool follow up- a more unique approach to “taking it out” with pentatonics. There’s a good Ramon Ricker book called “Pentatonics Scales for Jazz Improvisation” that has a chart of superimposing pentatonics and their relative “outness.” Great work as always :)

Triads are awesome. Something fun to try is pair 2 triads that dont fit in one of the modes together and reflect the pairing in the voicing and/or the way the chord is broken up. Like a particular bit of modal interchange? Well, what if they were both derived from the same scale after all? Major 1 + minor 4 is a classic example that works well. Lets say you do some classic interchange stuff with that, then BAM, the combined scale.

yes you can. So F7 originates from C dim7. You know what else originates from C diminished 7? Eb major 6 and F6 (notice the E for the hexascale). man you can apply barry harris to EVERYTHING. this is INCREDIBLE.

Triad pairs but major-major instead of major-diminished, is all I got so far... but now McCoy is playing so much more, too😂

Now that I'm close to the end... this hexatonic scale sounds more like lydian dominant than diminished 6th, to me. But it's more natural for me to think about it as triad pairs, just as they framed it, really.
@GizzyDillespee6 ай бұрын
I mean, it's kinda the major pentatonic scale with the lydian note added. Many ways around it, I guess. Paraphrasing Adam, it's all the chromatic scale, and we're highlighting different flavors within it, with each phrase.

Fair. But just remember to stay inspired and working at it, and I also think it’s a good idea to learn new things and challenge yourself for its own sake. I don’t necessarily think the best version of you as a musician is the one that prioritizes trends and doing the most impressive and esoteric thing, but the one that is inspired and works at their own vision.

Why do some people, like myself, do not understand, like, or appreciate Jazz or this type of music? It makes no sense to me. Jazzy music could be just on a much higher level, invisible to me, that my brain cannot understand. I love rock and classical, but jazz, to me, is like scratching chalk on a chalkboard. Glad there are Musical styles and modalities for everyone. It's just not for me,,, I think Mariachi is also Wierd!
