These concepts are getting better and better. Im not sure how efficient it would be with creating the extra drag. Also If you have to get on top of your vehicle to unfold it all, and for $3,000, you might as well build your own 1200-1500w array out of flexible foldable panels that you just pull out of the trunk, unless of course this includes the power equipment (charger cord, lithium battery, inverter, etc) included in the price.

So a 1200w array will produce on average 4.2kwh per day in Sydney = 1500kwh a year, $3000 is a high price to pay for an absolute maximum of 1500kwh a year, I would waste 1/2 of that on just the extra consumption dragging the unit around everywhere on roof racks. Forget this sort of generating capacily in the UK - if you're in London this goes down to 870kwh a year. The 1500kwh also only applies if my car is sitting outside 100% of every daylight hour with the unit deployed all that time, never in the shade, never in a garage, never in an undergound car park, never being driven - all of these things will reduce the opportunity to generate electricity. I can see an application for off-grid camping if that's what you're into but for regular daily use it would take me 50+ years to generate the savings to pay it off.

It's a shame that some exaggerated expectations are being created here. On a really good day, it will be possible to generate around 4 kwh. If you then assume an economical car with a consumption of approx. 16 kwh/ 100km, you can achieve 25 km under optimum conditions. However, the car must not be shaded, the weather must be really good and the car must be parked during the sunny hours. Then add to this the orientation of the solar cells and the conversion losses and unfortunately there is not much left of the electricity generated. If you then factor in the increased air resistance, you probably end up with almost zero over the year. As I said, the idea of a solar-powered car is a nice one, but it is a long way from being implemented in practice.

those panels are 1,2KW, if i understand correctly this is minimal amount to start charging Tesla, so if there is a bit less sun then 1,2KW then charging wont even start. @surfntrucks4 ай бұрын
I read both of your points. I'm looking for a system like this that generations 6kW to 7kW. That's the ideal system. Or when it's sitting somewhere without a charger option for a long period of time. The idea is actually overdue. It's a great start until we can get more efficient photovoltaic systems. Says can charge 30 miles but how long on a sunny day does that take? Super interested, as my Rivian sits outside all day while I’m in the house:
@lemongavine4 ай бұрын
Rivian is a large and somewhat inefficient vehicle. In full sun, you would probably get about 2 miles per hour charge rate. I'm basing this on the assumption that the panels put-out 1.2kW and the Rivian goes about 2 miles per kWh
@johnreeves72614 ай бұрын
I'd guess the whole day.
@Luka_3D4 ай бұрын
@@lemongavine Spot on yeah. I guess it has it's use as a trickle charger but with something like the rivian, I doubt it would make much sense. It just hogs up too much space on the roof

Having this thing on your roof will kill your range, the folding panels will fail due to folding fatigue every day and the scratches to your car from these flapping panels, just a bad idea from start to finish.

Definitely will work in AZ considering the desert sun that they have!

And after you get used to using it routinely and there is a storm wind situation during the night. Bad discovery during the next morning when those panels aren't really secured in any meaningful way.

1000usd and I would buy it without thinging... 3000 too much 😢 it would pay a lot of charging What is a maximum power? Do you ship to EU? Will you produce also with EU charging Socket?

So it looks to me that just the wind drag from having this on a roof rack, will lower your range by over 20 miles a day so basically does nothing right?

Hello.So,How much does it take to charge?
@GoSunSolarАй бұрын
Thank you for your interest in our EV Solar Charger. The time it takes to charge an EV with the solar charger can vary based on several factors, including the amount of sunlight, the efficiency of the solar panels, and the battery capacity of your vehicle.
@fr9714Ай бұрын
Honestly you’d get like 4-6% recovered for parking 9hrs at work. That’s if you get good sun where you’re parked in summer. And even that is very dependent on conditions so more like 2-3% imo. It’s something but might as well just plug it in at work to 120V and get guaranteed 15-16% for 9hrs
@GoSunSolarАй бұрын
Thank you for the detailed breakdown. I appreciate the insight into the recovery percentages. Given the variability in solar efficiency, it does seem more practical to use the 120V option at work to ensure a more reliable charge. I’ll keep this in mind for future reference. Thanks again!

Now we just need to see this being independently tested, reviewed and validated by the likes of leading KZbin EV channel 'FullyCharged". If the manufacturers fail to get their potentially highly-disruptive (price too?) solar-tech independently and credibly tested and reviewed everyone should remain very sceptical... Paul G

This is a really neat concept, but I would like to see some real world KZbin reviews before I put forth 3k. I can definitely see this being handy with Rivians and on the go camping charge during the summers.

@@Luka_3D These are worth way more than a catalytic converter, those are regularly stolen in under ten minutes and simply cutting off the 2 roof racks is quicker.

I don’t think most people will use this. Sounds great but the wind resistance from the side mirrors are a huge factor on range. Imagine roof racks and this thing on the roof. You might gain a few miles that counter the miles you waisted just having it but the time spent unloading and loading it will soon weigh on you. Especially after your realize those tall buildings will cast shadows on the panels and significantly reduce its effectiveness. That and you can’t park in covered parking so your car has to bake in the sun. So your car is hot. I think most ppl would rather just charge it like normal with the freedom of parking anywhere with no loss in range.
