Don't quit your day job. K4 has always been its designation in Korea. Kia is simply now bringing its naming in line with that nomenclature. Names typically sell better in the States compared to letter and number designations. Apparently the k5 has sold so well that that changed their thinking.

Hyundai and Kia are really making very innovative designs, and people are really offended by it, and it's hilarious to me! 😂 They are thinking that how dare the Koreans make their cars look like this?! These brands are showing that economy cars can be fun and stylish to drive. They made the impossible, possible. Hate all you want. But the Koreans are really challenging their competitors to do better in the styling and tech department.

I bought a 2010 Elantra brand new and had it for 10 years and 148K which is the longest I ever kept one car. Previously I had between 96-2010 two Cadillacs,a Chevy Avalanche and a Lincoln TC. That’s an average of 3.5 years per car! Now I just got a 24 Forte GT and hope to repeat the former love but instead I’m aiming for 10+ years and over 148K miles! Sad to see that there will me no manual transmission. Vehicles with a 150+ to 200 and something hp are most fun with a manual. My other gripe is that the 1,6 turbo gets the traditional automatic while the 2.0 litre atmospheric which imo would have been the most obvious to go for gets the dreaded CVT. Thanks but no thanks. Honda might have a very similar approach but their CVTs at least have a first launching gear and they still offer a manual.

A lot of the styling elements here look good. The front and rear look OK to me. Not exactly handsome, but refreshingly different without being offensive. The interior looks good for the segment, and it's also good to see Hyundai/Kia starting to go away from their problem ridden dual clutch. But it's not all good. The lack of a hybrid model is a miss (at least for now). And that C Pillar design is awful IMO. Not sure what they were going for, but it doesn't work. The plus side to that is there's a much better looking wagon variant, which we are also apparently getting in the US.

There are many H/K high mileage 1.6t DI engines on the road to this day. Just make sure you clean the injectors after so many miles. Also, the majority of H/K new engines are DPI. If only the Hyundai and KIA group could only only make durable engines. Literally a decade under their belts of metal shavings, insufficient head bolts lengths, destroyed rod bearings and blown head gaskets. And lets not forget about the lack of an immobilizer and some insurance companies refusing to insure their vehicles because they get stolen so much. There is a lot of potential value for the money in these brands, but not if the engines are destroyed with 70K miles on them.
